Stupid Question #15697321 Is there a limit on Rune Spells?

And all of your runes draw from the same pool. Someone with 500 spells isn't all that much more powerful than someone with 50, or even 10 well chosen ones. Meanwhile, they have sunk a hell of alot more skill points into learning the spells.

Stupid Question #15697321 Is there a limit on Rune Spells?

Integrating a rune costs you 1 POW.

    Enchanted Weapons

One way to deal with all of this is to give the item a POW score and it's own MP pool. Every POW invested into the item gives the item 1 POW. When you cast a spell from the item, 1 magic comes from the user, and the rest comes from the item. In addition, POW can be invested into an item for...

20-sided die patched onto Runic SRD

People find dividing by 5 hard. :) Halves are something most roleplayers are used to. And anyhow, stats don't effect skills enough in RQ, so giving them a small boost wasn't much of a concern. I said threaten. When you threaten a crit, you roll again to see if you succeed -- if the second...

20-sided die patched onto Runic SRD

The reason behind the above skill costs is two fold. First, if you can just add +1 or +2 to a skill at intervals, the cost of higher-level skills isn't higher than the cost of lower-level skills. I wanted to make the game as similar to d% Runic as reasonable. Second, why not use the Runic...

    Rune Magic

Practically, you can make Divine Magic nearly the same by having it dedicate MP to the spell instead of POW. Ie, it lowers your max MP, but not your POW. This saves on lots of skill bookkeeping. ;)

    It's a kind of magic

I'd go with +1 step in the damage bonus table, and +2 HP in each location. +10% to all strength and con based skills during Rage. +10% Resilience (bah, the mental one, I can never remember which is which... we just call them Fortitude and Willpower ^_^) -20% to all skills that don't get a...

20-sided die patched onto Runic SRD

Darran, I don't get it. Are you saying that what I described was alot like HeroQuest? I'm simply trying to see how hard it would be to make a game that plays nearly exactly like RQ, yet uses 20 sided dice rather than percentile dice. The hard part, honestly, was the XP system. It took a lot...

    Contested rolls past 100%

The short version: Roll normally. After you roll, you can take -100% to your skill -- as many times as you like -- and upgrade your success level by 1. An alternative: Roll your dice. You are now allowed to halve your skill as many times as you want, until your skill is under 100%, at which...

    Variant d% rolls

No, it doesn't solve the "over 100%" problem. Existing MRQ has the same problem, as far as I can tell. A simple trick is to say "if you beat your skill by 100%, you get +1 or +2 to your success rank". That does result in rather overwealming abilities of people with insane skills...

20-sided die patched onto Runic SRD

*nod*. The bigest impacts are 1> The numbers, in general, are smaller. 2> People who play other games *cough* may be more understanding of this system. 3> It demonstrates a two-directional map between two games many people think are quite different. It can also be useful if you want to move...
