Hmmmm, is it just me or does 2ed seem very very similar to the first. From the preview I can't see any real changes except for a few added maneuvers and spells. I hope they fix some of the balance problems that annoyed me about the first edition...
Well since that was probably my favorite scene in the campaign, I'll explain the whole thing.
Main characters for this scene:
Koldran Blodoks: honorable PC
Snorri Hestageldir: dishonorable PC
Sigvid Freysgodi: local bigman NPC
Runolf Hlammandi: Sigvid's brother
Osvald Arinbjornson: Local farmer...
I agree about the power attack and bardiches and greatswords but not about the code of honor. In my campaign the party castrated a noble's favorite warhorse out of spite, framed his brother, goaded the noble into killing his brother and then took got the noble outlawed and received his horse in...
More custom spells where that one came from:
Curses:
Dull the blades
PP Cost: 1
Component: V
Casting Time: Standard action
Range: Evil eye, touch or magical link
Target: One bladed weapon
Duration: Unit sharpened
Saving Throw: Will of the person bearing the blade negates; if the blade is not...
Right, fluff-wise that change would be no good for most campaigns but it works mechanically and it fits the Viking atmosphere.
Yes.
Well most barbarians will like the damage of two handed weapons.
Actually what I did was adapt the shield feats from the PHB II, that was one of them.
Well I...
I'm just wrapping up a heavily house-ruled Conan d20 campaign set in historical Europe (mostly Norway) in the 930's. We played for ten adventures so my house rules got a lot of testing. I think a lot of these would be useful in other people's campaigns so take a look:
1. Removing defensive...
What I did in my campaign is give people a +3 will save for having a code of conduct and let them choose whatever kind of code of conduct they wanted as long as it would place a significant restriction on their behavior.
One character was a Muslim who avoided alcohol and pagan religion which...
According to my Roman History prof gladiator fights were often like modern professional wrestling with pre-determined results, lots of flashy moves and few attempts to actually kill each other. While common criminals/POWs were cheap enough to kill en masse the fights of the more popular...
I'd go with what they want. There's plenty of stories of Conan involving himself in internal politics of various kingdoms.
Maybe go something like this:
Adventure 1: Shit goes down in a local area and PCs help that and in exchange get a position in the household of the local lord.
Adventure 2...
Indeed, I'd probably house rule it that this only works within one range increment though, otherwise if you have a 1000 archers you can hit things in the next country :)
I think that the first magic item I'll put into my campaign (except for a few potions) will be a magic stone that heals a big pile of HPs of wounds with a touch (infinite charges)
But only works on wounds caused by a single sword, a sword that I'll try to get to fall into the hands...
