Sure, they are good books in general and explore a lot of themes around order and chaos and personal growth. All the stuff you want in a game to add complexity and tone to the setting. My favourites being the The White Order and The Colour of Magic.

I see what you mean, but in this case modest means a million copies as of the last book to come out two years ago, so there will have been more since then. In terms of the licences mongoose currently hold that represents a very large potential base.
