I think that If you have a brain bug in your army as well as the overseer, then if the overseer gets killed, then the brain "takes over" and the bugs still get 2 actions the next turn. not completely sure though.
I was thinking that you could do a pirate theme. Seeing as there is already a relatively small amount aof people on a pirate ship, you wouldn't have to alter the rules too much to accomodate size.

I did that once, but it didn't reall do a whole lot, except catch my brain bug in the firezones once the shield had gone down. And the Plasma bug died from a killshot, so the plasmabug retaliated onto the brain, inflicting more damage.

Far as I know, the arachnids have only one (type of) ship. And bug filled rocks. Seems to me that it would be really hard to pilot an asteroid.

I cant remember who it was, but somebody made rules for predators in GoM-C1. I think it was someone working on future gangs supplements, but i cant remember who it was.

Negative. Not for that price, and Honestly, i probably wouldn't use it in battle. I guess its just me, but if its not eneough like the rest of the stuff, then it gets admired from the shelf.
