What you're looking for is a good depth of field. You can get this by using a very small aperture (f18, f20, f22..somewhere around there). What this does is severely restrict the amount of light getting to the sensor, but allows for more of the object to be in focus. Don't ask me why this is...
Speaking from a historical perspective, this tactic was known as 'The Thach Weave', and was developed early in WW 2 to help US Navy Wildcat pilots deal with the more maneuverable Japanese Zero (sound familiar? :)).

A tripod (tabletop version is fine), large aperture setting and a remote trigger (or timed shutter) really helps with that. Of course, minis make excellent target for micro photography too as they don't move. :)
While I have played SFB in the past, I can't claim any real knowledge of the system, so the Federation 'shield' shaped saucer sections surprise me. Are they a new for ACTA or a holdover from SFB?
