For the most part, I agree. GDW screwed the pooch with the whole Virus metaplot, and in my own opinion, with the "Hard Times" book. I personally prefer higher, not lower, tech-levels, and with the new options in the various books I really would like to do a pseudo-Star Wars Traveller setting...

Both the Mark Miller's Traveller book, Emperor's Arsenal, and most of the QLI Traveller: T20 Edition books had great gun illustrations in their supplements, especially the laser and plasma weaponry. And Mongoose's own Central Supply Catalogue has terrific illustrations as well.

If the Joint Chiefs of Staff played Traveller as a wargame, then sure. But 99.999% of Traveller players are playing individual civilian PC's, and that's who the game is aimed at. Civilians. (And the occasional Mercenary character.) But not large-unit military organizations.

I don't know about that. Fans of Joss Wedon may remember a certain *pair* of ex-Army grunts who pooled their ship shares and bought a used far trader... a Firefly class one, at that... Or (if it uses antigrav,) B.O.B. or V.I.N.CENT from "the Black Hole", if one absolutely must...

A far simpler way to put it is that a boarding Vacc suit is just a really tough space-suit, while Combat Armour is what Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers wear in the movies.
