    Conan Comic #2 arrives March 24th, 2004

Whether you liked the first issue or not, it was of a suitable length and price in comparison to other comics today. In fact, I seem to remember far fewer full-page ads in Conan #1 than in, say, your average Marvel comic. So I'd say that rather than getting a bum deal, you in fact got a...

Conan vs. DAWN OF THE DEAD

Having seen Wrong Turn and the slightly more recent Cabin Fever, I have to say I liked them both, although CF was superior on a number of levels. And frankly, calling it derivative is like saying James Bond movies are stupid because they all contain the same elements. The Slasher genre has...

Seen the movie too many times

Heh. It happens occasionally that a scriptwriter will "name" the character, but the character will never be "named" in the film. It's unusual for a main character, but happens a lot for "tertiary" characters. That Uruk-Hai captain in Fellowship of the Ring who battles Aragorn has a name in...

    Masterwork Weapons and Akbitanan Weapons?

While you do have a valid point, creating a handful of masterful weapons with as small a bonus to one aspect of their function as possible is a very far cry from +5 Longsword of Fireball Throwing, +5 Full Plate, +5 Shield, Ring or Regeneration, Ring of Invisibility, Boots of....bahhhh it's been...

Lack of enthusiasm for Conan @ ENWorld

Old School Dragonlance still has a lot of appeal to me because the original three War of the Lance novels were ny first real introduction into Fantasy as a genre, and I have a many of the 1st and 2nd edition DL products. I've never been in a DL campaign, but I would play in one IF the DM used...

Fire wont burn there. No fire at all.

Peasants, Hippies, they both wear rags and muck about in the dirt whining all the time. Same diff... :) One of my many favorite moments in that movie is when Conan's on his trek to the Mountain of Power and he comes across the Hippie Brigade with their tambourines and flower necklaces. Time...

Lack of enthusiasm for Conan @ ENWorld

I first got into this forum after seeing posts on the d20 Conan list and references to it on ENWorld, but I don't read ENWorld anymore. I am in total agreement with the posters who note D&D's current self-refrencing trends. I never played AD&D 1st Edition, but I played Basic back in it's last...

Fire wont burn there. No fire at all.

I think in the context of the Hyboria-verse, this little tidbit works well. "Those mounds are kept by powerful gods and the spirits of kings." Perhaps these mystical guardians won't let fire burn on the mounds as a symbol of their power, perhaps because of a forgotten legend. OR, perhaps...

    Masterwork Weapons and Akbitanan Weapons?

I know i'm jumping into this debate a little late, but I had been thinking about this idea for the time when I can get to run a Conan game. Here are some of my thoughts. Any weapon in Conan can probably be adjusted in any number of ways: Attack Roll, Damage Roll, Armor Piercing Ability...

    New review up at RPG.net

Overall, I'd say the review was pretty fair. Some bullet points: - I disagree about needing to break up the "Scholar" class, mostly because in REH's works, Scholars are usually either villans or sideline characters anyways. And since there are no real references IIRC to acquiring power...

    Sabre

Ah, ARMA. That website is so great a resource for gaming it makes me weep to see it used here. Especially nice to see my handle showing up in the article (a "badelaire" is a French falchion-esque slashing sword). I also recommend reading the article linked at the bottom of the "cut vs...

Thorgrim's Hammer (Conan The Barbarian movie weapon)

Overall, 2d10 Damage Crit x2 AP 7 Doesn't seem toooo heinous if you consider some other possible rules mods for such an unusual weapon. I'm not saying ALL of these should be used, but any one of them, and certainly two of them together, would make this weapon a lot less attractive. 1. Make an...

    Improvised Weapons

IIRC = If I Remember Correctly. Sorry about that! Sometimes I forget that these little internet abbreviations aren't as universal as I'd think... And yeah, Elfman's got a good point. Little rock = gauntlet, big rock = club, really big rock = war club, and give a non-proficiency penalty...

    Oi...

All righty, you GOTTA get us a page number for this, because I need a good laugh...

    Improvised Weapons

Or maybe make any "rock attack" some sort of unfamiliar weapon, with all attendent penalties (thus, IIRC the Barbarian would be more effective smacking things with rocks, which seems appropriate).
