I will be running a VaS game on the USS Texas in Houston, TX this September 24 in support of the Texas BROADSIDE event.
This event was announced on TMP and the Houston Beer & Pretzel gaming club pages.

The Heat of Battle II convention was awesome, and luckily occurred one week before Hurricane Gustav.
A photo album of my pictures, including the Pala Passage VaS game is here.

If you can get to New Orleans in August 2009, join us for Heat of Battle III.
What you need is this book. I highly recommend & own it.

USD $20 is cheap for all the information contained within.
A more expensive route for RN only is this series Warships in Perspective.

Questions re/ torpedo loadouts in IJN destroyers:
1. Fubuki class. I see they are One-shot. Did Fubuki's not have re-load capability (one reload)?
2. Akitsuki class. The torps on these are AP and not Super AP? Did they really put 21" torpedoes on this class and no the SAP 24" Long-Lance...
It's 2 weeks to Heat of Battle II in New Orleans.

I'll be running a Victory at Sea WWII naval game based on the movie IN HARM'S WAY. I previewed it w/ photos on the www.LSHM.net blog on July 20.
Come and enjoy the Big Easy if you can get to New Orleans...
I was thinking about simplifying the Initiative roll to just a d6 roll. The only mods are for civilian ships and OBS aircraft (did OOB change that?). If it's a straight up / all-combatant fight, do you really need to roll 2d6?

Franz,
Smoke = Smoke. There is no difference between Friendly and Enemy smoke.
Think about it like this... there is no difference between friendly fire and enemy fire if it is aimed at you.

AdmiralBob,
The shell splashes are both homemade and store bought.
For the homemade, I glued a 1/4" pice of 1/16 brass tube on a penny, and then gloped on acrylic filler to make a seasurface and spash of water. Painted the base blue and then dry-brushed white and hit the splash w/ white. Was...
Dave Manley,
Could you recommend a radar-restriction rule like in CaS? USN SG in 1943 in the Slot.
I was thinking that maximum radar range would equal distance to nearest landmass. Imagine Savo island or Tulagi. Would the gain have to be turned down (limiting range) so that landmass returns...
Questions from OOB MTBs:
1. What is the split value in AA for? USN PT Boat AA is 5/1. What does that mean? AA is range 5/AD = 1?
2. Do the torps have range 10" like every other Navy?
3. If a CF marker/miniature/stand represents a section of 2 boats, do they get two forms on the fleet list...
Answers:
The small islands are from WizKids PIRATES CC game. They work amazingly well for naval miniatures too. Made in China, pre-painted resin. I think they have two different boxed sets w/ 6 each. Look for them wherever PIRATES CCG is sold.
The large terrain piece is custom made by a...
Soulmage,
I posted on my club's blog the table setup I'm going to use. Took some nice photos, but it's a fake-setup just to help me get the 'feel' of it before the convention in August.

I put links to your home rules in the blog, hope you don't mind. I'm off to read your...
Soulmage,
I'm going to run a VaS game w/ your rules mods in New Orleans in August. It's a convention called Heat of Battle held at the National WWII museum.
Question: In your End Phase notes, you are still taking a Command Check on a 7+ to put out fires. One thing I like about your rules...
Franz,
Ships make smoke while they move forward or turn. The ship making smoke is NOT covered by the smoke, it's the ships following behind the smoke that are screened. Basically, the one ship that is smoking is 'on point' and eligible to be engaged by the enemy while making smoke.
