Travellers Needed - Core Rulebook Reprint

There are minor things for clarification in the NPC chapter. The rules refer to a table that is not as described (page 86 - Experience levels). It is still usable, but there is a mismatch in the text. In Combat - when someone is triggering a free attack when disengaging, is that a reaction? I...

    CEI (and ECEI)

I agree on 3. as well. It seems an odd mistake that is dragged in all CEI rules (Element cruiser, Deepnight, and now the Mercenary). For 5. Just calculate it at the end of the engagement - i.e. the less frequent - the better.

    Deepnight Revelation - GMs Thread

I have yet to play it. Originally, we expected to play it when it was released, but Corona struck, it got delayed a bit and we started with DnD 5e. To be honest, we kind of exhausted the latter, so I expect the players are eager for something different (i.e. DR) after we wrap up the fantasy. I...

Integrating Mongoose 1st ed Firearms/Armour with Mongoose 2nd ed games

There are a few things to note. Some of the 2ed armors are better than the 1st ed variant. Auto rating of 1st edition = 1/2 Auto rating of 2nd edition. I.e. Auto 4 in 1st = net 2 attacks. Auto 2 on 2nd ed = net 2 attacks.

Become a Journalist for the Travellers' Aid Society!

I might submit a few fringe weapons, with a little backstory of each.

4+ Years on, how is the underlying math of MGT2E holding up? (especially in the Starship and Vehicle construction rules)

I sometimes rule a stray shot inside a ship will deal dmg to internals, ignoring armor (i.e. laser deals 17 dmg, ~1 dmg to ship). Although both books are not math-tight as my obsessive balance nature would like, they are pretty usable books. Unlike Ed.1 Vehicle and robot books. The vehicle book...

    Rethinking Athletics Specialties

Yes, of course. But that is a major element for every aspect of the game. Personally, I don't have an issue with this as a Ref - Traveller is that type of game - some skills will be prompted little, some - a lot. I've observed my players - they never took any Athletics different than Dex. Only...

    Rethinking Athletics Specialties

The current state is that they're not even. (Dex) is superior - no questions. Defenses, Throwing, Sprinting, ZeroG, Flying + other evasion checks. (STR) is subpar - I've used it only once or twice in hundreds of sessions. I think it grants a bit of KG for encumbrance. (END) is subpar - I've...

    Fleet Combat/Quite-A-Lot-Of-Credits-Squadron Game?

Well, chaff, as written, only reduces salvo attack by 1, thus this is only 1 missile. When 200 fly, 1 is hardly a difference.

    Fleet Combat/Quite-A-Lot-Of-Credits-Squadron Game?

There are rules how to use them to hit. In general, a good gunner will stop missiles in 1:1 ratio though. Dogfighters get +4 to hit, interceptors get +2 to hit. However, interceptors have 3/6 chance to stop torpedos and 100% missiles. We can translate this to 50% effectiveness for torpedos, for...

How to let players generate the characters they want without letting them min/max?

I've stated that in other topics, but might be good to add it here as well. Two things - from experience: 1. Don't mix random and point-by characters together. The latter are usually over-specialized in a particular thing. 2. Point-by characters tend to be very, very, very strong in one area...

    Fleet Combat/Quite-A-Lot-Of-Credits-Squadron Game?

Fragmentation missiles kill normal missiles at 1:1 rate in ship combat. Not sure if there are differences for fleet combat.

    Exactly how foolish was I?

It was a well-staged financial fraud by a shady government deal, which benefited several individuals a lot, hundreds smaller by some, and indebted millions. The latter were not in-fact indebted directly, but with the government trying to amend things in the rigid way they can, passing the ball...

    Fleet Combat/Quite-A-Lot-Of-Credits-Squadron Game?

If you're going to use fleet combat rules, I have a few minor tweaks (house rules), which might give you ideas to address some issues: - Mass drivers should not be applicable for ship-to-ship combat, and in consequence - fleets. Put some penalty to discourage use. Otherwise, it can become a...
