Will Starship Troopers be re-released?
In another forum I read about a possible re-release of the Starship Troopers miniatures game.
So.... is it true?

We can only hope that's what Project D is...

Starship troopers was fun and all, and I miss it, but to be honest, there was only so far that the game could go. As long as I get a new military sci fi miniature game at some point in the future, similar to SST, I'll be happy. It would be nice for Mongoose to do a game like AT-43, but not fail, at least that is how I feel, by coming at it from a more traditional angle.
The future is bright and full of possibilites. Personally, I can't wait.

Technicaly the future never gets here. It is always the future so there is no point waiting. Now the present is another story altogether. It is always here so you never have to wait for it.Mage wrote:Starship troopers was fun and all, and I miss it, but to be honest, there was only so far that the game could go. Oh come on, what if we had gotten plastic LAMI?Mage wrote:Starship troopers was fun and all, and I miss it, but to be honest, there was only so far that the game could go. People say 'only so far as a line could go' - that is nonsense.
Mongoose alienated players by saying 'rerelease, new models, new win soon, be patient!' and peoples patience was tried year on year.
It doesn't help the fliers were never released, and many models had major casting problems that could have been sorted out.
I've still got my old SST stuff and trying to get more atm as its a cracking game sadly proxying many things that were never released.
Had there been the lovely Vikings we'd seen pics of they'd have sold a treat to SST players, 40kers, model makers and all and sundry.

For better or worse, most people are familiar with the movies, and not the TV show. If they had made the movie models a priority, and pushed them up front, it could have worked.
I would have gladly sacrificed a hopper bug sprue to to get some LAMI, as well as some landers.
In the end, I think it was too ambitious. GW has worked for years to get to the point where they can afford to put a plastic Valkyrie into production, and MP was telling us they were going to do the same thing, in such a short period of time? I never really believed it.

Rackham's AT43 bombed in the end, however as always its up to new companies to take first steps in changing the mould.
The LAMI metals were great fun, and the sixty I own are of good quality overall... after more (any SST shizzle for sale PM me)... and I'm still sour that the Skyhook retrieval boat release was so poorly advertised.
I'd love Mongoose to have another crack at it, or some company take up the licence to it all - as the rulesets were excellent, I found Evo lackluster... and I remember the massive fuss at Salute that year as the gaming world went crazy for SST.
But you're right, I expected too much
