Deepnight Revelation

Postby Randalthor66 » Sat Apr 04, 2020 3:44 am

So, I just heard of this thing, which is a particular favorite type of campaign of mine, and I assume that the kickstarter is over (right?). Is there a timeframe for when the box will be able to be purchased by non-backers?

PS: I have been looking for the 2D deckplans, but cannot find them. Could someone post a link please? Thank you.

Let’s see... a bunch can be found here: https://www.mongoosepublishing.com/high-guard.html. Scroll down a bit and you’ll find a downloadable zip-file with all the High Guard ships.

I can’t seem to find the core book or high Guard Aslan files though... it’s possible they were included upon purchase perhaps, or they might not have made it to the new e-store...? I dunno.

Finally there’s the high detail plans from the Element cruiser box - but those aren’t available as a free download, you’d have to get the box for those :)

That’s the official ones I know of!

Thank you. Very Cool.

Now that that is taken care of, anyone know when the Deepnight Revelation stuff is going to be on sale for the non-backers?

That's a difficult prognosis with Kickstarter projects, especially in the current pandemic crisis and it's (not so) foreseeable consequences for global supply chains. That being said, the estimated delivery for backers has always been July 2020. With Kickstarter, I would personally allow for a three months delay to be still within the acceptable norm.

Usually, if a campaign went so well and sufficient funds from the campaign will likely remain left for a larger print run, non-backing customers can get the product from the publisher immediately after the backers received theirs. If funds do not allow for a larger print run, I'd imagine Deepnight Revelation would immediately be placed on the 'reprint schedule'; maybe not on the first slot, but with a reasonably good slot.

For the first scenario - lot's of money left - I'd say you could hope for the fourth quarter of 2020 to get Deepnight Revelation. Under the second scenario - insufficient funds left - it would take longer, but probably within the first halve of 2021.

Now, that's just experience and heavy scryball using. I think Mongoose are doing everything within their power to deliver Deepnight Revelation within the promised timeframe. And if they meet the July 2020 deadline, you might already have it by September. But I would not count on that, we're living in crazy times and who knows what'll be going on with printers in China during the summer.

The Kickstarter updates are looking amazing so far, though.

I figured that the current situation would affect things. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on the website. Thanks for the info.

The kickstarter updates have mentioned that they are ahead of schedule on writing, editing, and layout, but are concerned that art might be slow coming in. But overall they see, to have maintained a good pace.

We received the Deepnight Revelation Supplement "Far Side of Nowhere" ('DR:FSN' or just 'FSN') as a beta copy yesterday. I'm starting an errata thread here. Please move at your pleasure, if a better thread is or becomes available.

FSN, p. 6, MODERN HUMANS box:
Modern science has provided the inconvenient fact that humans have only been behaviourally modern for about 40,000 years, and that the human ancestors of the Ancients period would have been Homo Hiedelbergensis or similar.
Orthographical error: Homo Hiedelbergensis should be Homo heidelbergensis, as it is named after the German city of Heidelberg. Also, the name of the species when following the genus is not capitalised.

Solution: Change Homo Hiedelbergensis to Homo heidelbergensis.

Sidenote: It's nice to see Traveller get up to speed on anthropological as well as other scientific progresses. It serves the background well and has educational benefits. Also, it makes the OTU more ambiguos, which helps in creating narratives.

I would be hesitant to include that in any case since it is very much disputed.

Consider the evidence that Neanderthals exhibit modern human behaviours - burying the dead with grave goods 60,000-70,000 BC for example.

That's still ca. 150,000 years after the fall of the Ancients.
