What should The GM do?

Postby JMISBEST » Tue Jun 26, 2018 2:20 pm

A GM made A Special Drinax Noble Events Table and in her last term A Social Scale 14 Noble rolled A 66 on The Events Table then A 2,000 on 4D6+2x100 then A 800 on 2D6x100 then A 6 on 3D3 and this means that this player has had a very distant relative die and leave her A Pirate Hunting Fleet of the players choice, within reason, of up to 6 Ships, with a individual mass of up to 800 tons and a total mass of up to 2,000 tons, which is, as its Pirates of Drinax, in edition to The 200 Ton Drinax Class Commerce Raider and The GM's players command, right from the start, A Fleet of 3 400 ton Patrol Corvettes, 2 200 Ton Drinax Class Commerce Raiders and A 600 ton Corsair converted into A Pirate Hunter. What should The GM do?

If the GM created the table then the GM has to deal with the consequences!

That's what I was thinking. But I'm too kind to say it and she wasn't planning on the biggest dice related Luck she's seen in her 29.2 years of life and not just in Traveller

If you don’t want a PC to have stuff don’t make it available especially on a dice roll. Admit it was a mistake and start again before it gets out of hand.

The main problem is that he feels he can't refuse The Player as its just the two of them and he's officially her step-father but in truth her supposed biological father isn't her biological father and theirs A 1 in 3 chance that he is her biological father. If they take out a loan using the noble Pcs Cr 10,000,000 Business as collateral to buy Slaves to crew the ships how could it effect at least Adventures 1 and 2 with the single player having, cos her Cr 85,000,000 Portfolio allows it, command of 6 ships that range from 200 tons to 800 tons individually and have a combined mass of 2,200 tons right from the start

Unfortunately, all of the ships have disloyal crews, and jump away in unauthorized directions. The crew of the ship with the player characters is disloyal too, but they follow orders when the characters are watching. But they need to be replaced with loyal crew at the earliest opportunity.

They can't just kill the disloyal crew; no one will work for a captain who kills crew. They need to be laid off with good severance pay.

That sounds as complicated as hell, I had a serious internal monologue with myself just allowing players to have AP rounds in a Gauss Rifle - this sounds like a nightmare wrapped in a bad dream!

It's more than a little strange that every GM you know suffers from the same obsession with creating extremely contrived ways to give the players far more power and wealth than the adventure setting can stand.

If you read Pirates of Drinax, the Travellers are given a ship. One ship. And with it they are to make things happen.

Someone with 75.345 million credits and their own fleet has no reason to play Pirates of Drinax. They might choose to do some empire-building of their own though. Best option would be to throw the adventure book away and ask the player what they want to do. Build their own empire? Pick somewhere to start and have it it. They don't need Oleb's shoestring operation. What happens next won't be Pirates of Drinax of course, but that decision was made when the Travellers were handed bigger assets than the scenario designers envisaged they would have at the end.
