It's now next year, we're well into January and the silence since November has been deafening. Any news at all?

The Ides of March are past. Caesar is dead. Is it "-ish" yet?

Aaaaand it's April. I assume any further -ish will no longer apply to March.

Do the alligators know that? Do male alligators wait till April 11th and think, "Finally, now I can get some sweet scaly lovin' "

In his book The Alligator's Life History, E.A. McIlhenny* wrote that he had never known an alligator to mate before April 10. This became an inside joke at the national park where I used to work (my doing) and reached the point that one year the rangers wore "Alligator Mating Season Begins TODAY!" stickers on their uniforms.

Alligators are among the smartest reptiles on the planet, which makes them only slightly stupider than that stuff stuck to the bottom of your shoe, but they can't read nor do they really give a hoot what humans thinks about anything anyway. I am sure that when the combination of weather and hormones sets off the "Get it on!" alarm in the gator's tiny brain, consideration of the date goes right out the window.

*Edward Avery McIlhenny was a member of the family whose company still produces Tabasco sauce on Avery Island in Louisiana. Prior to becoming CEO of that company, E.A. was a state game warden, turned Avery Island into a wildlife refuge, wrote the first real scientific work on the American alligator, and is credited with killing the largest alligator ever measured (19' 2"), although there is some debate as to the accuracy of his measuring. Being a fairly typical Victorian/Edwardian scientist, he tended towards the quantification of everything, hence the assignment of an actual date to the beginning of mating season.

Hmmm ... April 21, a day fraught with significance,

753 BC Romulus and Remus found Rome (traditional date)
1600 1st date in James Clavell's novel Shogun
1857 Alexander Douglas patents the bustle
1878 NY installs 1st firehouse pole
1920 John Galsworthy's "Skin Game" premieres in London
1935 King Boris of Bulgaria forbids all political parties
1952 Secretaries' Day (now Administrative Professionals' Day) is first celebrated.
1963 Beatles meet Rolling Stones for 1st time
1980 Howard Stern begins broadcasting on WWWW Detroit Mich
1986 Geraldo Rivera opens Al Capone's vault on TV & finds nothing
1987 Richard Hadlee makes highest Test Cricket score of 151* (v Sri Lanka)
1993 Brazil votes against a monarchy
1997 Ashes of Timothy Leary & Gene Roddenberry launched into orbit
2008 The United States Air Force retires the F-117 Nighthawk
2012 Chicago White Sox pitcher, Philip Humber, pitches the 21st MLB perfect game against the Seattle Mariners
2017 Victory at Sea 2.0 ... well, nothing actually happened on April 21.

Happy Beltane, everybody! Of course, Beltane is the first day of May, so I'm wondering if we May hear something about WAS 2 this month. Maybe or Maybe not as usual, I guess.

It's the 17th and May is becoming more June-ish by the day. Just saying.

Looking on the bright side, when VAS2 comes out, I will be retired and have plenty of time to play.

I'm already retired, so I'm hoping VAS2 comes out before the only people who get to play it in my house are the ones who show up for my wake.
