Traveler miniature game
Traveler miniature game
So I saw on the upcoming release page that there is going to be a Traveler miniature game. Any hints or preview? Any idea what kind of format there will be? Is this Traveler ACTA? What is the anticipated release date?

"Understanding is a 3-edged sword" bit like a toblerone, really.

You just made me realize I don't think I have seen a formal policy regarding thread necro here.
As for the topic, I hope and pray it is 15mm. My poor Traveller and Star Grunt armies would love to come out of the storage box.

Re: Traveler miniature game
Thank you, I was hoping for a ACTA type game unfortunately.
Re: Traveler miniature game
So was I: unfortunately I don't think this will be possible whilst Ad Astra are able to produce licensed Traveller ship mini's. I have a feeling that the Traveller license isn't one all-encompassing monolith that enables you to do anything with it. But, perhaps success with this game will lead to a team-up with Ad Astra or some other compromise position, just have to see.Bellicose wrote:Thank you, I was hoping for a ACTA type game unfortunately.

Re: Traveler miniature game
I guess I just wanted ACTA to get a new lease on life and a traveler version seemed the most promising. Though given the relative obscurity of the fading suns in sci fi, a new version could be anything. That assumes there will be a new version.
Re: Traveler miniature game
While an ACTA version might be good, I am glad to see a ground warfare game as well. I miss playing Striker back in the day.

Oh you are quite right, there is nothing wrong with variety in war gaming. I'm just biased to ship to ship space combat.
Re: Traveler miniature game
The last ship to ship game I bought into was Firestorm Armada. Ended up with two painted fleets and no one who wanted to play.Bellicose wrote:Oh you are quite right, there is nothing wrong with variety in war gaming. I'm just biased to ship to ship space combat.

Firestorm was a flash in the pan in my area. Several folks bought fleets and sold them off again before I even finished painting my fleets. Before that I played GZGs Full Thrust. But when that game folded in the area I sold my three fleets to a friend who was moving away. That way he had five fleets total. The only ship to ship that seems to be still in action right now in our areas is Star Wars Armada.
I would love to see another ship to ship game get some traction in the area.

Re: Traveler miniature game
I used Lego blocks for naval battles.
Should have stuck with that idea when I started playing Warhammer.

Re: Traveler miniature game
Sigh. I am an addict with at least 200 miniatures. Almost every fleet from star fleet battles. Most of the ships from noble armada. Some Babylon 5 ships. Most every micro machine space ship ever made. Then some oddballs.
Then the game rules. Star fleet battles, full thrust, battlefleet gothic, noble armada (holistic and acta), starmada nova, firestorm armada (1st edition), pax stellarum, heck even GOBS.
Sufficed to say, I have a problem. I also don't get to play often. I feel your pain finding opponents. I occasionally play with my 12 year old soon.

I like to think of my miniature/game addiction as a gift. It keeps me out of much worse troubles.Bellicose wrote: Sufficed to say, I have a problem.

Well Daniel I certainly can't argue with that.

I'm addicted to space ship combat games. The first actual "miniatures wargame" I ever played was the original Star Fleet Battles when they released the old Starline 2200 miniatures to go with it. Since then, I've collected fleets for lots of spaceship games, including BFG, Full Thrust, Starmada, and Jovian Chronicles. I jumped on the bigger Starline 2500 miniatures for ACTASF but I've since used them for SFB and FC, too. I bought complete fleets for all the originally available empires. Now with the release of more ships on Shapeways I'm building new fleets for the Lyrans and Hydrans and adding new ships to my existing fleets. Even though I can count on one hand the number of space ship games I've played in the last 12 months.
