Unusual spaceship names
Space ship names – inspired by the names in Iain M. Banks' Culture novels.
Note: if you are running a Judge Dredd or Strontium Dog campaign then as well as providing names for ships it could be adapted to provide names for City Blocks or Freeways.

Re: Unusual spaceship names
I always liked the Culture Warships. My personal favourites:
1) Hand Me The Gun And Ask Me That Again
2) Lapsed Pacifist
3) I Said, I've Got A Big Stick
4) Attitude Adjuster

I'm just saying that it's highly effective and I strongly recommend using it.

Re: Unusual spaceship names
'Melon of Troy' for a ship name in my current traveller game.
Re: Unusual spaceship names
Space Rats in the Star Wars campaign I played in.
Been a while since the last session but currently we're still using Darth Vader's personal shuttle as he threw our last freighter into the skeletal structure of the Second Death Star when we pulled a "Villa"* and escaped from the prison cell aboard a Star Destroyer after learning he was coming!
And who says being a Tongue Tied Engineer and Force Sensitive never came in useful?!
*A Blake Seven reference for those left wondering

Re: Unusual spaceship names
Borrowed from someone else, possibly inspired by Iain M. Banks: Accusatory Finger of Suspicion.
In one RPG in which I was playing, the female player got the job of ship's captain. She promptly named the ship Floppy Ears.

Re: Unusual spaceship names
I recall someone similarly inspired by Mr. Banks' books naming a free trader "Driver Carries No Change".
Re: Unusual spaceship names
I find myself half expecting a free trader call the "Seriously, How Many Corsairs Are There In This Sector? VII"Hiccup II

Re: Unusual spaceship names
Back in my college days, I had a player who came up with an ethically challenged ship named "Middle Finger".

Sir Dhaven Hevelin, IOD, Baronet of Fulacin
Owner/Captain - S.S. Warlock
Playing Traveller/RQ/D&D since 1977

Re: Unusual spaceship names
As always, Ian M. Banks wins:
Anticipation of a New Lover's Arrival
Irregular Apocalypse
Of Course I Still Love You
Size Isn't Everything
Man, I do love the Culture...can't we have Traveller The Culture already?

Re: Unusual spaceship names
Hazard to Navigation is our perennial favorite.
Re: Unusual spaceship names
For unusual ship names (say I want to have the names of the various ships at a starport) I sometimes use funky band names!
Really, can't you see a ship named:
Iron Butterfly
Crack the Sky
Operation Ivy
Lovin' Spoonful
Velvet Underground
Cowboy Junkies
Black Flag
Twisted Sister
Cheap Trick
Faith No More
Fastball
Halfcocked
King Missile
Magnificent Tracers
Modest Mouse
Etc...
