I'm afraid that knowing it was Robotech would put me into misery, I watched the original airings of Robotech when I was six years old, rediscovered it in my mid teens, and own quite a few of the RPG books, and all the DvD's at this point. It was one of those shows that captured my young imagination and launched a love of military Sci-Fi that has endured to now. Knowing that I had to wait a year for its release would be rather painful :)

Which of course isn't to say that I don't want to know of course. However it could still be something else entirely. Rifts and Renegade Legion are still possibilities, not to mention it could be something else entirely, even some setting Matt has been dreaming up sense he was a boy for all we know. No I think Matt's going to wait until around December or January and ACTA's Star Fleet is ether released or heading to release and then drop the bomb on us for a mid years sales spike.

And as much as I want to know now, that would probably be the best marketing strategy, I always figured six months was about the limit people could wait to get excited over something. I know with "Old Republic" my interested has grown and waned several times now as the release has dragged on, it was the same for the Warhammer MMO. Too much lead time just leads to excitement burn out.

Both Robotech and Rifts could use a lifeline and both RPGs are done by Palladium (which certainly could use the lifesupport). Siembieda has had some problems over the years and it's still a active thread over on their forums

I could see RT; as the americanized version battletech was/is very popular for many years. Though, I don't see it as the Project R...not since Cataylst Game Lab has been doing Battletech for awhile and still is. Palladium did come out with the Shadow Chronicles book based off the movie back in 07. And I thought their was a new RT movie in development as well...following the SC in the storyline. And Palladium is releasing a new RT sourcebook this year for the RPG. Who knows.....except for MS.

Rifts would be awesome. Played the heck out of that game back in the day. Would love to see an army of dogboys going up against Tolkien forces.

But Project R could be something altogether different.....maybe even Recon from Palladium. 6mm vietnam era battling. That would tie in with the request for a vietnam era military knowledge specialist.

Lots of troops could be fielded for something like that....and dozens of gunships and transports. Nice.

But could a Robotech agreement be extended to cover the later Japanese Macross series (such as Macross Frontier) or would that require a whole new license entirely?

Just an quick FYI - Battletech is nothing to do with Robotech - FASA, who made up the Battletech game, used the Macross/Robotech mechs without permission and were sued, leading to them removing the copied mechs from their lineup (since referred to in BT circles as "The Unseen").

So a Robotech license wouldn't need any kind of permission from Catalyst Games and there's nothing they could do about any deal between the Robotech license holders and any other company.

True on the battletech/robotech differences. Harmony Gold is the keeper of the RT liscene. I meant to imply that why make a RT game when a version of it is already out there. Not the same world and background, but still with giant stompy mechs. Of course, Robotech does have cyclones.......but in 6mm they'd be awful tiny.

If the Warner Bro's actually got the live-action movie going, I might think it was this. If there was a buzz over at Robotech.com in the Gaming Hall forums, I might think it...

Anyways....I'm still hoping for the vietnam war idea. That might lead to adaptations for a modern era expansion.

I'd think that Vietnam would be 15mm not 6mm... more likely to get minis that you could recognise and the vehicles aren't that big...

True about Robotech, but then the Zentraedi are big...

I would hope that Project R is the Renagade Legion setting,
while i would like to see Robotech i think the Renagade would be a better fit for Mongoose..
you have,
Centurian, the 6mm ground combat game...
Interceptor, Starfighter dogfights,
Travaller could be used for the roleplaying game
and then there is of course,
Leviathan, a better fit for ACTA i cannot think of....the thought of finaly after all these years being able to get my hands on a mini of a Shiva class Battleship has me week at the knees.....

and if it is i will end up with more debt than Greece...:(

Renegade Legion setting would be a great game to play again but I heard the license was with tops and it would be hard to get.

Funnily, I have just been given a box full of Renegade Legion stuff. Full of crunch, but the fluff is awesome. Mongoose couldn't support all its elements without significant investment, I suspect.

BTW Palladium still have the Robotech licence.

Maybe R=Riot, ie, Block Wars for Judge Dredd. With the much trailed but little revealed Manta as the BIG release for it.

Renegade Legion is one of those oldies but goldies. The Roman styled legions of TOG, the oppressive aliens, the high tech combat both on the ground and in space. It really was a very unique setting and it defiantly would work in 6mm.

Someone mentioned a Recon game, Vietnam time period. While that would be interesting I think Battlefront is already doing it in 15mm and it looks pretty darn good. Also the number of huge battles in Vietnam is actually pretty small so 6mm seems a little too grand for the scale, but I could easily be wrong.

I'm personally still rooting for Robotech, but not due to any knowledge of whats coming or even a logical speculation, just holding onto a dear childhood love I probably never will get over.

I'd love to see Renegade legion done by Mongoose - a while back I did a Centurion ACTA variant that seemed to work well.

I think I remember a couple years ago some issues with whether or not Harmony Gold even had a valid license.

It's so murky, and given the way things went with SST, I imagine Robotech is the last thing Mongoose wants to touch.

Am I just blind or is there nowhere DATE when the campaign guide will be released? It's on pre-order status but WHEN is the book coming out?

Won't pay 1 cent for pre-order if I don't even know when I could expect it. This month? Next month? Next year?

Especially with the books history being what it is I won't dare to risk preordering without having idea when it's coming out. For all I know could end up in next decade ;)

Matt tweeted that he'd updated this thread, but I see no updates?
