Pretty monumentally stupid writing a 'how to register' then putting that where only registered users can read it..Vile wrote:Try this: How to register on the SFRPG Forums with only a gmail/yahoo/hotmail address.DFW wrote:I tried sfrpg but it rejected every one of my email addresses when trying to register.Golan2072 wrote:SFRPG. Well, I'd be more tempted to call it a teeny copy-n-paste slip-up, myself, good manners costing nothing and all.

Did you get the problems with SFRPG sorted out yet, DFW? If not, please PM me with your e-mail addresses and I will contact the admins myself.

I would go with CotI for forums and for TML for an elist.nats wrote:Is there any still going that anyone can recommend please?
Personally after my personal experiences I wouldn't go near SFRPG if you paid me.

Consider this another vote against CotI.
The mods over there are running roughshod over the place (Aramis, Far Trader, and Colin). I've been visiting that forum every day for close to a decade, and I've seen it go from one of the most comfortable forums I've ever been on to a place I loathe.
I've left the place recently, leaving after I posted in a thread started by another member who was complaining about treatment by the mods. I agreed and stated that those mods were the worst I'd ever seen on a forum. Colin gave me an infraction because I "hurt his and the other mods feelings". That's what the reason states!
That's the way it is over there. I sent this to Andrew Boulton, but he just took Colin's side. Ridiculous.
Not too long before Andrew took over, I was in a thread where I disagreed with the point Far Trader was making. He didn't like that I had disagreed with him, so he slapped me with a Warning.
It's truly laughable over there now.
Life's too short, so I left.
And, to give you an example, THIS post would net me a Warning or worse from the mods had I posted it on CotI. It would "hurt their feelings".
I put my faith into Andrew Boulton to clean the place up, but he's disappointed me. IMO, what he should have done was clean house, get rid of Aramis (how many petitions have there been for him to be removed as mod?), Far Trader, and Colin as mods, then replace them with new blood--people who have a better temperment for mod position.
Or, they can just populate the place with themselves and their seven friends--that's the way they're headed (I won't even go into how they treated a brand new member who was excited about Traveller and posting a lot--he got banned for a week!).
In short, stay away from CotI.

Nice to see you spreading your lies on other forums. Have a nice life.
What's laughable is such personal attacks as this likely getting zero negative attention here from the moderators... oh that's right there are no moderators here so you can just say whatever you like and get away with it.
And to think the real reason you were "driven off" CotI was because we finally started reigning in your poor (to put it mildly) attitude against MGT and repeated rants over it, gaining you repeated complaints, and driving away MGT fans. And you turn up here of all places ranting against CotI. Oh the irony

That's not entirely true. While there isn't a moderator assigned to the Traveller section of this forum, actions have been taken when necessary.far-trader wrote:What's laughable is such personal attacks as this likely getting zero negative attention here from the moderators... oh that's right there are no moderators here so you can just say whatever you like and get away with it.
But this discussion of another forum doesn't really belong here, how about agreeing to disagree and moving on? Or taking the discussion to private messaging or somewhere else?

Best direct that to S4 by quoting him. If he wants to publicly call personal conduct into question with his lies then I'll respond in kind in the same thread. He's just trolling of course, but I couldn't let it simply stand. And my personal experience with moderation here is disappointing.AndrewW wrote:That's not entirely true. As for my "friend" (who needs enemies with such) S4 contacting me through PMs here or anywhere else, he needn't bother wasting his time.
I'm fine letting it go now. Let's see if he is fine dropping it and returning the thread to helpful answers to the OP's question.
<sigh> apologies AndrewW, my blood is still boiling and some of it may have splashed on you in my reply, I know you're just trying to help as a voice of reason here, thanks, and again sorry for any collateral damage

True moderation tends to be on the lighter side here, rather then using a heavy hand which for myself I find preferable.

This is why you're not a good moderator. You've made my point for me. Thank you. You're like a traffic cop taking speeders personally and wanting to give them the electric chair instead of a ticket or a friendly warning because they pissed you off.far-trader wrote:I'm fine letting it go now. You don't have the temperment for the job.
And, that's the point I was making about what's wrong with CotI today. You're upset because you can't "win" the argument by slapping the person who disagrees with you with a Warning or Infraction or a Ban.
Sucks not having the power over the discussion, huh? Gotten used to it, haven't you.
Further discussion? Not needed. Case closed.

Absolutely. I tried to make that point several times over at CotI. They prefer the big sticks over there.AndrewW wrote:True moderation tends to be on the lighter side here, rather then using a heavy hand which for myself I find preferable.
Never once have I got a Warning or Infraction or been banned from any other forum. Never. Only at CotI. So, that made me wonder...was it me? Or, was it the mods over there.
I was putting along in a regular conversation thread not that long ago when I posted a relavent article to the topic. The article was so big that I had to fit it into two posts. Next time I logged on, to my chagrin, Far Trader Dan had slapped me with not one but two Infractions. He decided that two of them were fair because the offending post was cut into two posts--in his moderator mind, two posts meant two infractions.
Oh, what what were the infractions for? Copyright. He didn't like me taking an article from another web site and posting on the CotI.
That's how it goes over there. Those guys are ridiculous. I don't think the article was a problem at all, but even it if was, a mature moderator who knew how to do his job would have sent a friendly PM saying something like, "Hey, I see that you're participating in the discussion, but would you mind removing it as I'm afriad a copyright violation might be a problem here."
I'm a sensible person. Had I gotten that, I would have responded, "Sure, no problem."
But, instead, Dan thinks its a better idea to slap two infractions on something like that, which was posted in good faith to support the discussion. Remember, not one infraction for the single offence--TWO because it was two posts.
Which way do you think is better? My suggestion above? Or Dan's big stick method?
Which promotes a happy, comfortable forum, and which creates a problem between poster and mod-who-thinks-he's-a-policeman?
To the OP, this type of thing happens all the time over at the CotI now. I just saw them crucify a new forum member right before I left. I e-mailed the guy, and he was talking about how the mods on the CotI are nuts.
I agree.

Way to go 'not even going into that' (talk about proving points). You're talking about the guy who repeatedly, despite friendly warnings, kept posting links to torrents for copyrighted pirated material right. Yeah, we're evil that waySupplement Four wrote:...(I won't even go into how they treated a brand new member who was excited about Traveller and posting a lot--he got banned for a week!).

But not really, you've just moved your whining about CotI here. Poor hard done by S4. I'm sure they appreciate it every bit as much.Supplement Four wrote: Life's too short, so I left.
This tired broken record again? Do you just cut-n-paste it? So what's that make you? The speeder who thinks the rules only apply to others?Supplement Four wrote:

Yeah, you know breaking rules, laws, posting copyrighted material you don't own, and such like kinda irks me when I'm supposed to be on the enforcement of said rules. I'm just funny that way. Totally makes me ill suited as a moderator.Supplement Four wrote:...what what were the infractions for? Copyright. He didn't like me taking an article from another web site and posting on the CotI.

Thanks for the chuckles, I'd go on but the giggles have exhausted me.

If two trolls are arguing in a forum...
...and nobody feeds them do they make a noise?

Apologies to the forum for my part in it. I'll give S4 the last words, he can continue as long as he likes. I'm tired of it.
