Visor in 2300AD?

Im a little confused about the visor helmet add-on on page 163 of 2300 AD core rulebook. It lists a protection of 7. Does that number replace the value of the helmet? Does it add to it? Or does it only apply to attacks to the face?

Only for shots to the face, in case of a called shot.

Helps with pesky xenomorphs too.
