Quick Question - Who Would Be Interested In This?

Who would be interested in this little project of mine? I've been dabbling in it for a while and finally finished my first fantasy career with a second on the way. Would anyone be interested in a series of fantasy careers?

Not for me.

For fantasy games I like more monsters and magic and I'd go with a system that players are familiar with and that is designed for such instead of doing all the work of trying to get such in Traveller.

Yea, for FRPG I prefer a game that was written specifically for that genre. A lot more detail on character creation than Traveller style.

Monsters are not exactly a problem for me. if there is one thing my company is known for in pathfinder is exceptional monster design. Doing the same in traveller would not be a problem.

I don't want to dissuade you, but I suspect you might have better luck with making a fantasy system universal (say, oh, Legend maybe) than in making Traveller serve well for every genre. Trav just has a certain modernity to it that's hard to remove, in my opinion.

And your Legend supplements have been great, if entirely too brief.

Kinda my point. There is pathfinder and many many many other fantasy RPGs that provide a much better platform for such gaming and I'd rather tweek one of them to suit my needs than use Traveller as my starting platform.

Not quite like reinventing the wheel. More like taking a bicycle and adding a motor, mirrors, headlights, signal lights, and other stuff to it instead of just starting with a moped.

Maybe something better than a Traveller Fantasy supplement with all it's parts, is instead do 'How to convert/intregate/use Fantasy material in Traveller.'

Give ways to convert magic damage to Traveller damage. Show the same with stats and even what TL 'magic items' relate to.

How does magic work, give some examples on how it could work in a Traveller setting or not work.


I had a player in my Futura (SciFi RPG homebrewed) who really, really wanted to learn magic. After much searching he found a planet that had 'magic', not PSI or tech so high it looked like magic. The and others gamed there for a while (4 years game time) so that he could learn magic.

They left and went on to other places. But surprise, he discovered that the magic he learned did not work in space. It worked on some planets but not at full strength and not at all on others. They even landed on one planet where he had terrible headaches and body pains even though magic did not work there. (All the magic he was taught was based on planet life force. Some planets were weak, some strong, some where so forgien that it hurt him.)

There are other possible limitations that could be used also.

Not for me.

I would use/consider Traveller for SF and Modern/Near Future. For Fantasy I'd use another system - probably Pathfinder, Savage Worlds, or something.

I am a fan of Science Fantasy settings, and in addition to the various game settings featuring science and magic in the same setting (Aside from ShadowRun, Most of which are Dark Horror/ Millennial Apocalypse type games), I have picked up the Thieves World Boxed Set for CT, Strontium Dog, Chthonian Stars the Terra Sol Netherel books specifically because they had Magic Systems usable with Traveller Rules, so what you have written is of great interest to me, and to many of my friends with whom I game.

Netherell has a rather complete set of fantasy careers included as well as a Traveller specific "magic" (psionic) system.

Will your supplement have a magic system? I ask because the "magic" skills given could be set up
as one skill (Spellcasting)
or a specialised skill like Gun Combat (Spellcasting(Know Stuff) 3 gives you Spellcasting (Blow Stuff Up) 0)
or like Trade skill where each specialisation is exclusive to each other..

Benefits also would be impacted and other skills would be impacted.

Netherill is not the only magic filled supplement. Flynn's Guide to Magic in Traveller and Worlds Apart have magic systems using the Traveller ruleset.
