OK, another question... sorry these are coming to me in chunks and I can't just ask in one big post. A friend and I played through a trial combat and he believes that when parrying his Dex DM should be applied to his skill to figure the penalty for him parrying your attack. I'm arguing that it's only the skill rating... which of us is right?

Example: I have a Melee of 2 and a Dex of 9. When parrying is the penalty 2 or 3?

or

Example: I have a Medic skill of 2 and an Int of 9. When figuring how much someone heals after a day under my care is it (assuming he's at a 0 End for all the damage he's taken but otherwise OK) does he get back 1 or 2 points? (2 -3 (for the 0 End) +2 or +3)

From the book: Medical care restores 2 + the character’s Endurance
DM + the doctor’s Medic skill in characteristic points per day, divided
evenly among all damaged characteristics.

Thanks guys

To me, END covers a characters overall ability to heal. Someone with low END heals slower than someone with high END. My personal opinion is that for healing purposes a character would use the pre injury END score as a modifier. Otherwise END being decreased to 0 on a character with 6 END and a char with 12 END would recover at the exact same rate (for the same die roll) until the higher END char got back to 9 END - at which time the lower END character could have been fully recovered for a while.

However, under natural healing on page 75 it does mention END DM being low "quite possibly from injury". So going by the RAW, I'd say you would use whatever the current injured END characteristic DM is.

By RAW, it is only Melee skill, not Melee DM, page 62 of the MRB i think.

1. The rules are a little unclear, we have changed it and treat mellee as opposed combat rolls instead. If sticking with the CRB parrying rules, I think either of your interpretations is valid.

2. Ignore the int modifier (or an edu modifier) as the patients end seems the most relevant characteristic adjustment, so 2 -3 +2 = 1.
