I know this is Mongoose Traveller, but all Traveller fans need to know about this:
Traveller 5 Kickstarter

I've read through the T5 rules. Even though it can fly, T5 is the Spruce Goose of Traveller editions.

I'm not especially excited, I'm very happy with what Mongoose are doing

Cheapest option to get the rules is $100 (actually, $140 inc shipping for me). If there's a PDF option, I might go for it, otherwise I'll just wait to see what appears in my FLGS.

Hmmm ... 140 USD for something which I already have in
several playable versions ... rather not.

I might go for it IF there was a pdf option. The price is a bit steep though. Kinda odd that a technology based game is stuck in the pre PC era..

What I fear is that if this becomes a reality, Miller will stop Mongoose from making more books, making his the only version available.

IIRC, Marc Miller & Mongoose renewed their license agreement recently. I would be surprised if Matt agreed to it having an exit clause that allowed Marc to unilaterally end it.

OK so how many of you are considering the $950.oo US dollar version...Hmmm I wounder if I can get Marc to sign it for me as well too...

I don't feel that T5 will ever hit the big leages, it will be bought by old timers like me and placed on my gaming library shelves to collect dust and be looked at ever so often when I want to steal some element for my own In House rules

PS: I once sat on a airplane with him and his wife for 5 hrs and we talked about Traveller, UFOs, Aliens and some of the current SciFi shows on TV. He is quite a cool guy to talk to.

My understanding was Mongoose had a 10 year license with a 5 year review point (which it passed). So if the contract is worth the paper it's written on, we should have Mongoose Traveller for another 5 years.

As for T5, I think the very important point about Kickstarters is that they don't take your money if the product is not actually produced; It's a pledge that is called on only when the goods are finished. Thus, there shouldn't be a risk of being burnt from the inevitable vapourous nature I suspect T5 will exhibit. I might consider pledging for the book if the reward was a guarantee to re-edit and correct the book multiple times after publication because I predict it will have the errata to beat all errata.

Another good reason to get it in pdf. At least you can edit using published errata...

If you buy Traveller T5 beta, it comes on a CD. You'll have all the rules and access to errata downloads. Unless farfuture.net doesn't offer it anymore?

ADDED:
It's still $35 under the FFE RPG PDF list. http://www.farfuture.net/cdroms.html

It has been pulled from the site: http://farfuture.net/ordert5.html

Check their PayPal list. It's not beta anymore.
