Possibility of a traveller PbP

Postby barnest2 » Fri Feb 25, 2011 2:58 pm

I mentioned in another thread I was thinking of running one of these. I've sent lastbesthope a message asking, and hopefully will get a reply soon. I'm putting this post up for a couple of reasons.
1) I'm looking for interest. If you're interested in playing, message me! I don't bite :D
2) Style/type of game. I was thinking of running either a traditional traveller game (in MTU) or a high guard game (in a different but non original traveller universe). Any suggestion would definitely be welcome, even if they are nothing like either of these two games.
3)... probably something else. Oh yeh, any sub-rules, house rules, or additional rules people who are interested in playing use or think are vital. I can make rulings on them, which would be helpful.

I'm looking for 4-6 people, but I can run with three. 6 is a hard limit though.

Ok, I have the go ahead. Once I have players, I can get it set up.
I have one player (OldTimer), and two possibles. I need confirmation of the two possibles (DFW and Hector, that means you), and have space for up too three more.
I also need a name....

p.s. replies are welcome in here as well

I'd be interested. I'd like to play in YTU. Are you familiar with Invisible Castle? It lets players make their rolls, describe them before rolling and then post them. GMs and Refs can check a player's account to ensure that they are not cheating. This means that we could play the "roll for terms" way instead of point-based.

Which books would you allow?

Yeah my players use it in a couple of other pbp's I run. I personally don't, but I don't think the GM has to prove his rolls... :D

Books available:
Core
High guard
Mercenary
CsC
Scout
Psion (though a character created from this will have to be well thought out)
I think I have scoundrel and agent... i definitely have one of them, maybe both.

For a MTU game, I would allow any. For a high guard game, it would probably be limited to High guard and core (unsurprisingly)

Need confirmation from DFW, then I can contact msprange about setting it up.

Still need suggestions for a name...

EDIT: Wait, did DFW say he would play? I may have read too much into that...

Never played a PbP. How does it work? I may be interested if there is still room?

You post, in character, what you do. I, as the GM, post reactions, details and stuff...
For instance...

GM post:
The man pulls a pistol from an armpit holster, pointing it at you.
"Time for you to die" he says, before firing. The bullet whizzes past your head

Rolls: Attack +1 aim: 7, miss

Player post:
*My character* draws his weapon, returning fire.

Rolls: Attack: 9, hit
Damage:17

GM post:
The man is hit, dropping to the floor as the bullet passes through his body...

Does that help?

Since I have no scope for playing or GMing Traveller other than when invited to GM at Mongoose Open Days (any thoughts on the next one Matt?), I'd like to be considered as a PC.

What rate of play do you envisage? Posts every day, two days, week...?

Every couple of days probably. I won't post unless there are two pc posts above mine.

Now that I'm at home and not posting on my phone, I should probably add that I voted high guard; preferably on a mid-size cruiser.

We using die rolls or point buy for character generation? I prefer the former, since it also helps with coming up with a background, but I can work with the latter.

Come on DFW, it's only play by post. You only have to look in every couple of days...

Hector, you say mid-size cruiser. My universes are very small ship oriented, so that mid-size cruiser will probably be a 12,000 ton light cruiser. Does that bother you much?
Also, It will be roll-up, I prefer that system. If you can use invisible castle then do, but I'm not that bothered.

Right, votes are weighted towards high guard, so that's what I will be running. I will send msprange a message, and post here when I get approval
The game will be named "A long way from home"

Gah. who voted for MTU... For those of you who want an MTU game. That will be coming, but not yet. Maybe when one of my other games collapses (which may well happen soon)...

1200 ton works fine, and I'll get a character ready soon.
