Reign of Discordia

Postby IanBruntlett » Wed Apr 07, 2010 4:08 pm

For a GM that already has Third Imperium, Hammer's Slammers, Universe of Babylon 5, Judge Dredd and Strontium Dog, what does Reign of Discordia offer?

Well, Reign is not good for the OTU. But, I could see it compactible with B5 and Slammers even if you have to modify it. It merely offers at this stage a toolkit for your game. Why should you buy it... Well, B5 is a dead line...and nothing more will ever be produced for it. So, when you run out ideas Reign will be there with some modification. Slammers, if you want, to make it into Space Opera - then Reign could help you there.

By all accounts, Reign of Discordia, will adequately supported by its creator. So, by all accounts, if you don't like or want to supplement the OTU with something unfamilar to most players - go with Reign.

Sorry cannot give advise on Dredd, as I don't play it and will not.
As long as there are stars in the sky and dreams about the universe, as long as there are chronicles of high adventure to recount, there will always be Traveller.

RoD feels more like Star Wars than Serenity.

Decide for yourself.

Well I will buy the core book atleast and will see what it is like and decide from there if I want to buy anything else from the line. I bought all the other side lines, but at this point I have not bought anything else on either the JD or SD lines yet. The pure Traveller stuff is more of what I want or need, I can come up with all the rest myself.

Indeed this is the case. Right now there's some material that was originally created for True20 that needs to be converted to Traveller, there's sourcebooks in the works, and I'll definitely be supporting the setting with a line of fiction.

Fiction will be released through my company Monumental Works Publishing, which specializes in creative content for e-readers such as the Kindle and like devices. They'll also be available on Print on Demand, and I'm on the lookout for a print publishing partner for them as well.

As usual, game products will be made available through Gunmetal Games.

As far as what it offers that OTU doesn't - it's an entirely different setting. Civilization has fallen and nobody is picking up the pieces. The setting supports a large number of different campaign styles, but the focus is on action and adventure rather than diplomacy and exploration.
