What Properties Would You Like To See Mongoose Acquire?
Currently, Mongoose has five setting lines for their Traveller product line:
The OTU (represented by The Third Imperium sourcebooks)
Babylon 5 (sadly, no further expansion)
Judge Dredd
Strontium Dog
Hammer's Slammers
There are other settings that, in debate here and elsewhere, have been pronounced by the community as good potential settings for Traveller.
Which of them would you recommend that Mongoose attempt to acquire and bring out a line for?

I voted for Babylon 5 - too good to let it fade away into oblivion.
Other cool options I'd vote for include Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy and Dan Simmons' Hyperion Cantos. Both are very cool sci-fi settings that will probably make very interesting gaming environments and fit the Traveller rules rather well.

We are but a tiny candle flickering against the darkness of our times.

Elizabeth Moon
Personally I would prefer to see Elizabeth's Moon's "Familias Regnant' rather than "Vatta's War" as a Trav setting however give then choices listed Weber's "Honor Harrington" is clearly superior.

Republic of Cinnabar series. THIS ABOVE ALL ELSE.
Escape Velocity series of video games.
Asimov's Foundation series.
Traveller Fantasy/Low Tech Traveller variant.
There's a few others, no doubt, but I can't think of them offhand.

I'd second this, especially as there's supposed to be a "reimagined" version coming out - like BSG.Klaus Kipling wrote:Blake's 7

None of the ones listed interest me at all.
If they're doing more 2000AD stuff then Rogue Trooper and Nemesis the Warlock ("Be Pure, Be Vigilant, BEHAVE") would be rather cool.
Firefly would be nice, but that's already been done.
Jack McDevitt's SF setting (which includes Chindi, Cauldron, and other books) would probably work well with Traveller.
(Klaus - I think SJG have finally released their Vorkosigan book, and it took YEARS for that to come out)

Larry Niven's Known Space
Heinlein's Future History
The Foundation Trilogy
Alan Dean Foster's Humanx Commonwealth
Dune
the Stainless Steel Rat
James H Schmitz' Hub / Telzey / Trigger Argee series
Douglas Hill's Galactic Warlord series
James Hogan's Inherit The Stars setting
With the recent acquisition of a certain game publisher, perhaps you could look into securing the license for Doctor Who / Torchwood, too.

That's already being done by Cubicle 7 isn't it?alex_greene wrote:With the recent acquisition of a certain game publisher, perhaps you could look into securing the license for Doctor Who / Torchwood, too.

I second this, with one clause: do his Talent for War/Polaris setting first (it's good except for the ending of the final book; I'm not so fond of the way he ends his books).EDG wrote:Jack McDevitt's SF setting (which includes Chindi, Cauldron, and other books) would probably work well with Traveller.

Though this reminds me, what's happening with 2320AD (or whatever date it'll be set in). I thought Mongoose had acquired that?

None of those on the list - I find the settings of military SF like Weber et al rather shallow, suitable for a wargame maybe, but not a role-playing game.
Film / TV settings I'd like to see (but have no hope of):
- Firefly (not Serenity)
- Farscape
- Blakes 7
- Alien/Aliens (what other two?)
The written word:
- Rogue Trooper
- The VCs
- Culture

I'd like to see them get Schlock Mercenary, and put the really high TLs (20+) through a workout.

Really, I'd say none of the above. Maybe it's something with me, but none of those choices appeal.
On a more positive note, I'd prefer Mongoose to develop something interesting based on Transhumanist fiction, but original rather than a licensed property. However, if you really want me to suggest a license, I'd like Dan Dare, thank you very much.
