Mongoose Traveller Setting

Postby Dove » Sat May 03, 2008 9:03 am

Hi there,

I started playing Traveller when I was still at High School and I fell in love with the New Era as it came and I have still a campaign for my boyfriend & our friends that is still active after 14 years.

I must say that I am most thrilled with a new Traveller, but I have some questions:

1) In what year will the Official timeline start?

2) Will it go back to CT/MT type of characters where you roll your skills or will it be more like TNE where you could build your character as you liked?

3) How will Psionics work in the new setting? Standard CT/MT or something new?

4) Will it go back to a big imperium that surrounds the players and neighbouring imperiums like the Vargr extents or the Zhodani Consulate (CT/MT) or a small imperium with lots of unexplored areas to re-explore (TNE/1248)?

5) Will it be set in the Spinward Marshes as it started?

Thanks.

You can still download the playtest document here:
http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/pdf/T ... %20Doc.pdf

And you will find some newer informations and get an impression
of the final version in the five previews published until now, at the
bottom of this page:

1105 Imperial.

The default character generation system is semi-random, similar to refined version of CT, but with a few more choices. There might even be a point-buy system as an optional rule, but I don't know if it has made it to the print version (I only saw the playtest files and I'm still waiting for my pre-ordered book to reach me).

More or less similar to CT, IIRC.

The default setting is in the "Classic Era" large, stable Imperium. However, using the rules for 1248 won't be too difficult to pull off.

The default setting is in the Spinward Marches; a sourcebook for them si in the works, scheduled to be ready in the matter of weeks from now.

The point buy system did make it into the book as an optional chargen system.

does the point buy system make things more even for PCs IYO?

Did they get rid of death during generation? I didnt follow the playtest discussions that much.

Mike,

IMO it has more to do with the GM and the group you are in, then the CharGen system. For me, the point system will make the characters more bland. Where the die roll system will cause some people to change their characters and in the end have more fun. But that is my opinion, I know others do not agree.

Yes, Death during generation is now an optional rule. They call it the "Iron Man" generation option.
