Science article on galactic real estate

Postby paltrysum » Wed Dec 11, 2019 5:47 pm

Not that Traveller, with its 2D maps, pays that much attention to this level of detail, but if you like incorporating some hard science into your astrography, here's a great article on the impact that location has on the potential to sustain life: https://www.supercluster.com/editorial/ ... eal-estate

There are implications that might affect what you'd find if you were participating in a Zhodani core expedition or a Solomani stellar arm expedition.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthropic_principle
Weak anthropic principle: "[W]e must be prepared to take account of the fact that our location in the universe is necessarily privileged to the extent of being compatible with our existence as observers." Note that for Carter, "location" refers to our location in time as well as space.
That is, the sun is in a prime location for life, because if it wasn't, we wouldn't be here to talk about it.
