Interesting article on the placement of the sun(Sol) relative to the Milky Way Galaxy. I always kind of assumed from Sci-Fi(things like the Charted Space Map) that we were out closer to the Rim. but it turns out we are quite a way in(about halfway to the galactic center black hole). Using the Solar placement in this article, you would nearly have as much to explore rimward as you would have to go coreward.

Interesting.
However given the short distances of Jump (even Jump 6) compared to the size of the galaxy, if we were 2/3 out or 1/2 out or even 3/4 out, it wouldn't really matter. It would take a HUGE effort to reach the Rim. (ala Zhodani Core Expeditions).
HOWEVER, regardless of where we are relative to the Core/Rim - we could reach the edge of the galaxy much easier by just going UP or DOWN. The spiral arms are only about 1000 parsecs thick and we are about in the middle, so we are within 500 parsecs of the edge of the galaxy in either direction.
Another problem with the 2D maps used on Traveller, you can't really travel UP or DOWN through the galaxy.

Interesting.
Of course it would be faster to reach the edge of the galaxy by going UP or DOWN. The spiral arms are only about 1000 parsecs thick, and Sol is about in the middle. So we are only about 500 parsecs from the nearest edge of the galaxy. A lot closer than the 20000 parsecs to the Rim or Core.
OOPPS - 2D maps don't let you do that...
