Feeding people

Not sure how big the machine is, but maybe it could be used on a ship to reduce CO2 and make food. Plenty of electricity to power the process.

Having to eat can be so inconvenient.

Humans think the robots are stronger because they don't need to.

The robots think the opposite because after civilisation is cast into ruin, the humans can go back to planting food and stabbing animals with sticks to eat, and the robots can't find a working battery charger.

Solution to robot revolution is therefore to nuke yourself.

Isn’t this how Soylent started? :D

In Traveller terms this could be a variation on a Biosphere (see High Guard), maybe more efficient but less desirable from a psychological standpoint. I could see space habitats using a mixture of the two types. Maybe aslan use the resultant food to feed their slaves while the bacteria clean the air?

And maybe this is the basis of the standard Imperial survival rations....

Note that vitamins and minerals need to be added - possible trade goods and targets for smuggling and piracy.

Variety in one’s diet is important for good health so other food types would still be needed, perhaps in smaller amounts. Flavorings and spices would be popular additions.

It's basically the Fusion Stile from CSC. That one you pour dirt into, this one has an atmospheric filter. Stile probably -can- work off atmosphere at lower efficiency.

Either device still needs external inputs like the correct vitamins and minerals. Plants can create things based upon the growing process, or leach them from soil. But if they aren't present to start then you can't create them.

There has also been more work around the concept of separate vitamins and how the human body can best get them from it's inputs. Big studies are debunking the idea of taking multi-vitamins and anti-oxidants for better health. So a big question would be if you added them artifically to these sorts of things would they be as effective as what nature already makes?

Yes, if you get it right. No, if you don't.

This is how you get that off flavor, off color protein paste three times a day.

Ever notice in fiction and real life we waste ever increasing amount of very costly power and resources when the whole problem is massively out of control populations. The elephant in the room breeds like a rat.

Just spoke to my personal trainer.

They say you don't need vitamin supplements if you have a balanced diet, and never have. However if you don't eat properly, they're helpful. It's probably beneficial to take them regularly so that you're covered if you go a few days without proper food.

They gave me an example of the banana as something that's been extensively cultivated and developed over the years.

I had a look around the internet myself after this. Supposedly here we have a wild banana vs a modern cultivated one. The wild one is much smaller and is full of seeds.

This information was provided by http://www.promusa.org/ which looks to be some kind of plant study NGO. I have really no idea and it's way outside of my domain of expertise.
