In other words, they can possibly detect a lower tech or poorly equipped threat. Which is something, because a TL 5 .308 round hurts just as much as a TL 8 .308. But they won’t stop an equal adversary.
If, by this you mean they would not be able to detect a sniper using iron sights then yeah, I think that's true. One thing about snipers is they typically are further away since they are wanting to live through their attack. but if you had someone well hidden within 200yds, that's easily done with the Mk1 eyeball. Though hitting the head rather than just the target is far more challenging.

Something else, if the scope was electronic and not optical, it would be possible to potentially tie in an electronic scope mounted on a building and fed through an electronic feed so you could aim by computer screen and servo.

Humans are inventive. Every one of these points always gets a counterpoint.

No, I mean they CAN detect a lower tech threat, i.e. that TL8 laser system can detect a TL6 glass scope. But it probably won’t see a TL8 scope that is protected against it.

Snipers will be needing anti-thermal suits soon. I read all British all infantry in Afganistan are carrying night vision googles, a thermal scope and a helmet radio.

Face recognition and smart guided bullets should resolve the issue of collateral damage, but open up a whole other can of worms.

In this specific case of lasering yon hoverbike, secondary sensor identifies the profile, and gives the heads up to the primary sensor attached to and controlling the weapons system.

I would have thought the ID components were both software modules and wouldn't need separate cameras?

The weapon platform stays passive until triggered, making it harder to detect and counter.

The primary sensor confirms identity, tracks the target, and activates the weapon system.

Wireless connection between the two modules would allow substantial separation but increases the risk of detection.

Fibre optic cable.

Even if it's only to a transmitter/receiving unit.

no need for wireless if you can avoid it. If the infrastructure exists set up a private VPN and just send the data through the existing lines.

Ever since Hezbollah hacked into the Israeli cellular system, I'd only use that in an emergency.
