Any good alternative design rules for ships out there?

I was thinking about the design system and things I might want to change. I'm sure I'm not the first. Who knows any good alternative systems I could look at?

It doesn't need to be fully conformant with Traveller but should be similar; if there's alternative FTLs and such, then thats OK.

Do you want simpler or more detailed?

For more detailed take a look at TNE and FFS. Much more detailed with alternative drive systems.

For simpler, perhaps CT HG'80?

Back when we were kids we used to port things back and forth between Traveller and Star Frontiers all the time, including starships. Haven’t played with SF since then but if you search for Star Frontiersman you’ll find the fanzine/archivist site. Traveller is much crunchier but SF has some customization options.

GURPS Spaceships - you can get it as pdf or pod from Amazon.

There are seven supplements on pdf available from SJG.

There is also a rather nifty little game called Slag...

I use the variants from MgT1 rule book.

MIndjammer Traveller https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/20 ... er-Edition has ship design rules that are notably different from standard Traveller, but also have a number of useful similarities and uses the same High Guard rules as the basis (but with significant alterations). OTOH, the ships are also notably superior to standard Traveller starships, since the Mindjammer setting is notably higher tech.

Figure out which parts of the design system you're unhappy about, and if that can be house ruled.
