Ship computers, subject to Prototech/Retrotech rules?

The title says it all. In High Guard, specific reference is made to how ship computers use exactly the same rules as portable/hand computers from the Core book. They already use the specialized computer rules to account for the /bis computers to handle higher jump software, but it seems that you could just as easily have a computer that was specialized for more virtual crew, or expert system sensor operation. Seems like if you're refitting ships systems, you could easily upgrade your computer by replacing a few compute cores. Are ship computers subject to the same rules for more/less expensive depending on what TL they are manufactured. If not, why not?

I would have to say yes.

Ship's computers are just larger regular computers, and proto/retro-tech applies to computers. HG p18 clearly states that options for ships's computers are additional options, presumably in addition to the options in Core/CSC.

That makes Core/40 extremely cheap at higher TLs...

I've already explored the bis aspect.

The short answer is, it's totally up to the dungeon master to implement that as a house rule.

The bulletproof option is separate bridges/computers in their own closed system.

I have often lamented how our RW office network doesn’t run like a Hollywood network with Dramatically Appropriate speed....

re Hollywood OS: These days I only really use the keyboard for technical things, forum trolling and gaming. For everything else, "ok google" or "hey siri" works just fine. The speech is good enough for vast majority of non-specialised text messages and google searches I do, or to set alarms and whatnot.
