Damage to a Hull with Superior Stealth

Postby Melbourne Accords » Tue Apr 09, 2019 4:16 pm

What is the best way to handle repairs to a hull with superior stealth (High Guard p. 13)? The repair rules (Core Rulebook p. 151) distinguish between hull damage and critical hits. My first thought was to increase the cost of hull repairs, but I'm not sure what would be fair in this case.

All advice/suggestions gratefully received!

That seems reasonable.

Could apply the cost of stealth to the displacement of the spare parts, for a minimum of 1 Mcr for 10 hull points.

You could also restrict availability of the appropriate hull plating as well. Stealth coatings may not be available at some starports....

For stealth, likely a military yard, or at least a pricate contractor authorized to do so.

A privately owned ship has to have a damn good reason for having that.

Or some underground garage.

And reduce stealth proportionate to damage :)

We have at least one example of what happens when stealth is lost, with a nighthawk getting shot down when a serbian missile battery turned on their radar as the bomber still had it's bay doors open.

Realistically stealth systems are no longer fully passive and I'd assume the same trend continues as TL increases but Traveller uses 1980s tech as a baseline.

If they're interefering with the enemy radar signals to reduce their detectability in a way that makes the enemy unaware of the interference (so, no unsubtle blanketing it with noise - because that would tell you something is there) that's also a stealth system.

(Mongoose IIRC does have computer DM to detection, but it's not stated if using that makes the other side aware that something's being done).

It's the sensor package that provides the modifier not the computer.

When using Radar / Lidar ( I'd argue only the active version), there is a (DM+2 to Electronics (sensors) checks to be
detected in return).

As to stealth, there is an active stealth system called Emissions Absorption Grid which can be used with Stealth / Superior Stealth and combined.

This stealth option is hull specific.

The degree to which the hull is damaged might reflect back how visible the ship's become.
