Is it a reasonable task chain?

Postby JMISBEST » Mon Dec 17, 2018 10:56 am

For a Drinax campaign a friend of mine is running is the following a reasonable task chain that involves all 5 of hers/The GM's, Players and all with the intent of having a chance of getting 1 or more The Strend Clusters Support, Alliance and Support

Admin to get the paper-work to get into A Party of The Strend Clusters top-leaders on very short notice, then as The Strend Clusters top-brass like people with military talent a shooting contest with Gun Combat to impress them, then Carouse to get the mostly unfriendly members drunk enough to be willing to listen to reason, then Persuade to convince them to listen to reason then Diplomat for the actual diplomacy

Why is it that your friends never seem to ask their own questions? Ah... friends...

It's not realistic, no. It would be more of a criminal thing (Bribery or Forgery) to get papers to get into a party on short notice. I doubt guns would be allowed into such a party, so Gun Combat would not necessarily be all that impressive. Besides, these are high-up people who would see someone good with a gun as an employee, not a mover & shaker. Carouse could be used to influence, but getting them drunk? Not likely. After all going to parties is what that sort of class of people do. Persuade is reasonable for the activity. Diplomat skills would not be proper in a party setting, that would be Carouse/Persuade.

do your friends only ever run Drinax - its a great campaign I give you but surely after its 1024th run through you must be bored of it by now - especially as all your players own the known galaxy :p

This seems a little superficial. Joining an interstellar alliance is a big deal, and not something you do because some guys were awesome at a party. You're talking about committing your world-state to a political stance and all its possible repercussions over half a dozen die rolls. Shifts of allegiance and alliance-building are matters for long-term diplomacy and alignment of mutual interests - which all parties have to have confidence in.

The Drinax campaign provides a rationale for nudging world governments towards alignment with Drinax, but it takes more than a task chain.

Other comments have been made before - you seem to know a lot of people who all play the Drinax campaign in the same sort of way you do, and the focus is apparently on creating a situation where you can get the Luckiest Dice Roll Ever to obtain vast wealth or power or a Medium Strength Superbattleship. Try focusing on the details; the little things that build the big events. Just getting one world to join Drinax could be the focus of several or even many sessions of gaming, and it's much more interesting to live in the game universe than to just wait for time to roll your portfolio growth again.

I'm aware of that and am starting to think they're just trying to make me look stupid, but I'm far too trusting for my own good and hence won't bring that suspicion up

The only person who can make you look stupid is yourself.
