New to Traveller? What Career to Choose

Postby CyborgPrime » Fri Jun 02, 2017 5:36 am

Hi guys - I wrote an article for newcomers to Traveller who might be used to d20 character systems and looking for some guidance about where to start. Just my opinion on ways to get started.

I hope you enjoy:

Well, what sort of game play are you after? If you are coming from D&D, the comparisons between Classes/Careers don't quite fit as there aren't magic users in the game. However,

Barbarians - Drifters
Bards - Entertainers, Merchants (sort of)
Clerics/Healers - Scholars (Physicians)
Fighters - Marines, Army
Paladins - Navy, Nobles (sort of)
Rangers - Scouts
Rogues - Rogues/Agents
Wizards - Scholars (Field Researchers/Scientists)

And then you have Citizens.

So what sort if thing are you after?

Yes, that's basically a summary of what I wrote in my article; I just went into more detail.

With the exception that there IS 'magic' in Traveller- it just takes the form of high-tech gadgetry.

Could add:

Psions = Psions

Then there's all the additional careers available for both in other books...
