Thank you for the update. I am sorry to hear you are having a problem. I know how disappointed you must be when this happens. I am sure, after some good rest, you will b able to resolve it next week.

I want something next to perfection. For that I'm willing to wait a little longer so you all get rest and go back to work refreshed and a clear mind. Never did like cramming in college, always leads to more errors. Get sleep!

Your voucher should be with you in moments, if it has not already arrived!

What I want is the hardback after we have picked apart all the typos and errata in the pdf version... :)

Which is why we release the PDF before we send the book to print :) We have a veritable battery of Traveller experts picking apart each book, but nothing beats a whole bunch of players!

A very sensible way to do it - especially since the updates to the pdf are easily available as they are made and the final book is thus free of 99% of errors.

I wish other game publishers would follow this plan. Would make the typo problem a few of them seem to always have go away and allow us to buy legal PDFs.

So it's a beta release, basically? People who just want to use a book that works should wait a few months while the bugs are picked out?
Unfortunately even with ten sets of eyes on a project stuff still slips through...with several hundred sets of eyes going over it with a fine-tooth comb bugs are gonna be running for their lives.
At least the PDF updates are free and only take a minute or two to download...they aren't hiding patches in DLC we have to pay for, or upgrades through micro-transactions...

(speaking of which, you REALLY need to update the PDF for 2300AD's "Atlas of the French Arm" on DTRPG. The printed version has the types fixed, but the PDF is still wrong).
My experience of I.T. is that you can never guarantee perfection - so the game becomes 1) best efforts to avoid errors and 2) how you react to fixing errors. I figure that sending out the PDF first is good because it makes errors cheaper to fix. And, with PDFs, you can always make an updated PDF easily available for download by people who have paid for the original PDF.

Not to be too argumentative, but if you buy it knowing that is what they are doing with the hope of an updated PDF down the line, then you *ARE* paying to proofread the document for Mongoose and you are helping those who will receive the printed book down the line. Knowing makes a difference.

So for you, it is an issue and you should not buy the PDF, any of their PDFs. For me, it is not an issue and I know what I am getting into before I do it. So buying the PDF now is what it is.

Hurrah, Amy! If I was in the UK, I'd give her a brotherly hug and buy her a pint.

Alas, I'm in Texas. But I'm appreciative nonetheless.

What Mongoose have essentially done here is said "yeah, we haven't verified that this is actually ready for final release, but we'll release it anyway and let you do the work of finding the remaining flaws that we know are there". It's a beta product by their own admission, and no amount of spin will change that.
Yes it had a playtest. But that wasn't the final version, which while it did get some eyes looking over it. Not nearly as many as there are now. This is simply cleaning up a few little things such as typos and such, the rules are pretty much set.

No document/system this complex is ever perfect. More testing means better quality in the end.

We should applaud Mongoose for their willingness to continue to make enhancements after nominal release.

So exactly why are you playing Mongoose Traveller if every product they produce are so well below even horrible standards? It would seem you are just as bad as everyone else who encourage the company to put out nothing but shoddy work by buying any of their merchandise. Isn't just a little hypocritical you know their stuff is bad then buy it anyhow or is it so you can go through it and count every error? All the other scifi RPGs out there must be downright fecal swill if you prefer to keep coming back to Traveller rather than jump ship to play something better!

Interesting, you are allowed to make all kinds of assumptions about me. What I like, or would have liked. Why I buy what I buy. And yet you don't want questioning about you and your reasons.

When you first started this conversation I agreed, I would rather have a clean product the first time. But it seems you are so busy judging me you can't see your own issues.

Enjoy what ever it is you wish to do. I no longer want to be part of it.
