Thank you Matt and the 'Goose team! Very well done! :)

Well managed (huge) project. I haven't gone through all of it yet but the art is great and the reported typos seems fixed. And a Referee's screen released at the same time (with nice art)!

As someone else said, this looks like the go-to SciFi game. I'm looking forward to the [[[Classified]]] surprises ;)

Hello all,

I just purchased and downloaded the new edition of the Traveller Core Rulebook. After a quick review I like what I see overall. I would like to say that a very good job was done by all.

However I noticed that the spacecraft design chapter has been removed. Is the spacecraft design sequence going to be in High Guard?

What happened to the index?

The reason for the question is that I rarely am able to find something in a PDF by entering a search criteria. When I have a hard copy or PDF with an index my search seems to go better

Also on p. 143 there appears to be a change to how Airlocks are calculated. The requirement in the new edition is "A ship has at least one airlock per 500 tons."

From the above I gather that hulls under 500 tons do not require an airlock. Personally I think that the old requirement of at least 1 per 100 tons is more appropriate. Of course I prefer to have an airlock in all hulls that can fit one.

Again thank you for the new edition.

Yes High Guard contains all the spacecraft design stuff now.

Hmmm, from the new High Guard: "A ship may have one airlock for every 100 tons or part of."

I don't remember which airlock rule was the final one. It never mattered to me which one it ended up being. Referees put airlocks on ships wherever they make sense.

Still waiting for my coupon code... can someone tell me the subject line and/or who it's from, just so I can make sure I never received it? I just did a search for "Traveller" and didn't get any hits for this month.

My email came thru bright and breezy just after 8am MST. Downloaded the files soon after and am pleased to say, as others have said the artwork is good and a major step up on the 1st ed.

My print friendly PDF isn't what I think of as print friendly, the artwork is left out (is it possible to render the standard art in a line/b&w format to keep the feel?) but the pages feature the "textured back ground".

A while back I reported that the standard version in beta was very sluggish changing pages in Preview, the default PDF reader in OS X, I'm running 10.10.5 on a mid 2012 Mac Book Pro. I wasn't having this issue with the print friendly file but am now, likewise, the file is now 56mb compared to the beta print friendly which was 4mb!

Sorry to piss and moan on the alpha release, am I the only one experiencing this issue?

Subject line in the mail this morning was: "New Edition of Traveller is Available!"

It came from the email address: no-reply@drivethrurpg.com

So I just want to double-check: If I pre-order this book from you here online at Mongoose, I can get the PDF version through the Bits and Mortar program? Or would I have to order it (and obviously show proof) from a local gaming shop? I'd prefer the online route, as the only store in town that participates is all the way across town...

You should all have received your coupons by now - though if you told Drivethru you did not want emails from them, you won't see them :)

However, easily fixed (Drivethru are very good at this): Drop them a line at http://www.drivethrurpg.com/pub_contact_us.php and they will sort you out ASAP!

No Index.... we truly are merging with T5. May Cthulu help us find our way out of this darkness!!!

In the age of digital, releasing an index for free would be easy, as would putting it into the PDF version. The limitations on printing don't apply to digital. And generally the limitations on printing are self-imposed (usually financial-based).

Now I really have to save up to purchase the new edition of HG.

Thank-you for the link and I wish my search skills were better when trying to find items on forums or in e-documents.

Traveller Core Rulebook 2008 p. 137 agrees with the new edition of HG at 100 tons of ship. Is there a specific forum or sub-forum to note possible errata here?

Thank you for the response and to everyone that put the new edition tighter.

Morning PST ShawnDriscoll,

Thank you for the reply.

In the new edition of the core rulebook the is 500 tons and per AndrewW the new edition of HG will be 100 tons.

I am more of a gearhead and discovered I am lacking in the skills of a referee, but I put at least one airlock on 99% of my designs. The 1% that don't have an airlock usually don't have any available deck squares left over.

Which of course brings one of my major dislikes with some ship design systems specifically that the space airlocks take up are frequently lumped in with the bridge when it is located say in the engineering compartment. Airlocks and ship's lockers in my opinion reduce space in the compartment they are installed which ultimately reduces cargo capacity.

Maybe I'm seeing "hatch" when I hear "airlock". I use "hatches only" on small ships, unless a hatch can be placed in a hallway to make a DIY airlock. Anyway, the High Guard rules have always been more advanced than the Core rules.

Digging up memories of being in the USN a hatch is a door of some type. A water-tight hatch, in theory, keeps water or other hostile environment out of a compartment.

The following is probably and over simplified and sloppy comment about an airlock, but I have not had enough coffee to start my day.

An airlock is a room that has two hatches/doors one on the exterior of the hull on the other on interior of the crew/passenger spaces.

Emergency airlock might look like that, locked but unpowered.

I didn't have to search much, remembered the discussion and went to that forum for it.

No errata needed. The Core Rulebook gives the typical "at least", High Guard defines at as 1 free airlock per 100 tons.

Note additional airlocks beyond this can be added (2 tons minimum, MCr0.1 per ton), such as on small craft which don't have a 'free' one.

Hello Condottiere,

I somehow logged out while I was posting a reply, so here is my second attempt.

Looking at the Common Spacecraft chapter in Traveller Core Rulebook 2016 there are deck plans that identify airlocks with a number. The Far Trader, at least I think it is for the Far Trader, on page 167 shows the item 3. is an airlock which has an iris valve on the right side hull outline moving left in the interior by about two squares is a second iris valve.

I was looking at the deck plan while making the post time stamped Fri Jan 22, 2016 3:18 pm.

The 2008 edition from my quick check does not identify airlocks on the deck plans.

DriveThru responded fairly quickly to me and worked out the issue. Anyone who hasn't gotten the email should definitely contact DriveThru.
