Pilots and Astrogators get loaded, Captains and Engineers work is never done, so they get loaded whenever they can.

One of the cool things about Dune: the astrogators live in tanks full of psychotropic drugs...

It's not me that says there are months, it's the core rulebook ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

From the spacecraft operations chapter:
"If the crew are paying off debts on their spacecraft, then these must be paid each month"
"paying 1/240th of the cash price each month"
"Each stateroom on a ship costs 2,000 per month, occupied or not"
"Each low passage berth costs Cr. 100 per month"
"Maintenance should be carried out each month. If maintenance is skipped or skimped on, roll 2d6 each month, with a +DM equal to the number of months skipped."

In fairness, the Spinward Marches book does NOT specify months as part of the Imperium's dating system - and the intention may well be that the concept of a month does not exist as we experience it, however the undefined "month" unit is baked into the rules......

Yup, someone here is getting my drift! Which leads to the question in the OP.

The rules need defining as to what a month is and it makes sense that it's 28 days/4 weeks. Which fits in a "standard" year if you have 13 of them plus that party day when everyone pops upstairs for a smoke and you then divide your mortgage payments by 260...

On a positive, they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall.

If ever there was a place needed filling, it's the Albert Hall!

Do it like in real life, say what the lifespan and then that's how you pay it off, as part of what revenue it generates.

Whole life cost?

I could take that as getting all RBM and very much a post scarcity thing!

I'll be stoned with rocks

I was an A+ accounting student, but my question is, why do you want to give more money to the bank? Not very P-S I'd say.

Well, the question arises in the most definitely scarce Third Imperium setting...

Where the rich have never heard of scarcity and the poor are tied to the post and shot...

What sort of devilish Bolshie-Republicanism is this? Call the Marines! Just like those kiddies in Gamma Station that were kidnapped for experimentation, that's civilizing, maybe you need some civilizing too!

Not really, you're just contradicting your earlier statement.
ShawnDriscoll wrote:12.
You say there are 12 months, and they're 4 weeks, 28 days each. By that calculation a year becomes 336 days.

That's why I think there should be 13 months and 260 payments on your ship mortgage.

In grognard terms (kinda) that gives you 364 days plus the infamous 1st day of the year thats a holiday for everyone.
You asked for mortgage game purposes. So that answer is 12 for that, for those that are playing the starship mortgage mini-game which is based on our calendar.

Ah, found it! MegaTraveller Referee's Companion, page 42 describes the history and reason for an Earth centric calendar and the MegaTraveller Imperial Encyclopedia, page 27.

Based on the time units of the Terran Confederation imposed on the First Imperium by the Terrans and became the standard during the Rule of Man. Date format is a year numbering from 001 to 365 with weeks of 7 days (24 hours) and months of 28 days which are used to indicate time period but are not named. The first day of a year is Holiday and stands alone not part of any week. So, in fact, there is 13 months.

Marc Miller's Traveller, page 185, states weeks and years are not used outside the Solomani Sphere. I think what we see in the contradiction is banks and lending organizations still use the archaic month unit as a unique time unit for the use of business, not too big not too small for loan payments and such.

Probably buried somewhere in that 656 page book but didn't find any reference in T5. Probably because it's specifically 3I.

LOL, when you started this thread you titled it as Hate. But it went where I figured it would go. Old Grognards really don't *want* to hate. What we like to do is talk. We love to talk and talk and talk. You gave us a topic and we ran with the topic.

Yes, you were talking about a game, so are we.

We might define grognards differently

;)

My meaning has something to do with:

"It was written down in [book x] on [page y] in [version z] therefore it is true.

It is immutable.

[version z] is the only one true version.

You will be smitten by the Gods of [version z] as a heretic."

Cos, you know, if it was written down it must be right, just like what you read on the internet is right...

Hiro, since you actually were looking to start a fight here in the forums, and waste our time, you could have at least picked a far more interesting topic to begin with.
