Excell Spreadsheets for spacecraft creation

Postby Mirja » Mon Mar 02, 2015 11:50 pm

Hi all.

I don't know if this is legal to ask, if it is not. Just tell me and lock the thread (alt. Send me an message here and delete the thread).

I am tired of looking through all my books when I a building spaceships for my traveller campaigns, so I wonder if there are anyone out there who has done a excel spreadsheet to ease the work of doin' this.

The reason why I ask is that i suck at making excel sheets.

Love,
Mirja

This thread needs to be moved to the Traveller forum.

I use excel spreadsheets all the time I think they were used to make the tables in the core rulebook, I've noticed I can make tables that look just like the spaceship tables in the book. I've made character sheets using Excel, and Excel makes a good die roller as well. I use the command =RANDBETWEEN(1,6) to generate a random number from 1 to 6. I can type =RANDBETWEEN(1,6)+RANDBETWEEN(1,6) to simulate rolling 2d6 dice.

Excel is very useful for that. I've set up dice roller sheets for 2D + DMs, calculating everything down to the Effect, and I even have a D66 roller.
Admittedly, the D66 roller sheet makes extensive use of the TEXT, CONCATENATE and VALUE functions, but it works well and it does yield the necessary range of D66 values.

I use a series of nested =IF(condition, true then, false then) statements

What I was looking for was a spreadsheat where you can quite fast build a ship by chosing the different components that can be found in Aliens: Darrians, High Guard, Scouts, Core book etc. Not doing random dice throwers.

That can, and has been, done too.
Not sure if anyone here is willing or able to share their High Guard - based spreadsheets. Might be a licensing thing.
But did someone mention that they had left a spreadsheet on Dropbox which could be used for ships? Or was that vehicles?

Here is the High Guard Statistics for my modified Scout/Courier, I made it a little larger to make room for 8 low berths, so its tonnage comes in above 100 dtons I made it in 2011 using classic traveller High Guard rules. Tell me what you think?

There are a few spreadsheet programs out there, at least two that I know of you can use to create ships using the Core rulebook rules. There's also one for creating <100 ton ships.

None that I'm aware of for creating ships >2000 tons.
