This weapon seems to have been lost from the Equipment book. It is mentioned in text but there is no data:
Riflfl e, Heavy, Gauss, 5.5mm (TL 13): A heavy version of the standard
gauss rifl e fi ring larger-calibre ammunition at a similar velocity, this
weapon eats up power cells but hits hard at long ranges. Only semiautomatic
mode is available as it is intended for sniping. Heavy gauss
rifl es are made to extremely fi ne tolerances and are very accurate,
giving an extra +1 DM on all aimed shots at any range. Ammunition
feed is from a 20-round magazine which includes a power supply.
Using DSAP rounds this weapon can penetrate combat armour or
even battle dress with relative ease.

Re: Data on the Heavy Gauss Rifle 5,5 mm
Or maybe it is the Gauss Sniper Rifle that is missing
Riflfl e, Sniper, Gauss, 8mm (TL 13): Most gauss weaponry is
designed to fi re rapidly but this sniper rifl e instead focuses solely
on penetration and accuracy. Magnetically loading larger calibre
gauss ammunition out of a low-capacity magazine, the sniper rifl e
is amazingly accurate and almost completely silent when fi ring. This
weapon is sound suppressed and grants the fi rer an additional +1
DM to hit whenever taking an Aim action.
there is only data for a
Heavy Gauss (Sniper) Rifle TL13 Rifle
Damage 5d6 AP
Ammo 20
Auto No
Recoil 0
Cost 16,000

Re: Data on the Heavy Gauss Rifle 5,5 mm
Huh, looks like you're right.
The description for both weapons does sound similar, by judging from the stats provided my guess would be the 5d6 is for the 5,5 mm heavy gauss rifle.
Funny that there's a heavy gauss rifle and a gauss sniper rifle but the one stat block is for a heavy sniper rifle

Re: Data on the Heavy Gauss Rifle 5,5 mm
You could just use the same stat block for both. That could of been the intention anyway, judging from the weapon being listed as a "Heavy Gauss (Sniper) Rifle" on the table.
The 8mm gauss weapon does use a larger round so you could assume more damage, but it also being sound suppressed could indicate a lower (sub-sonic) round velocity which would result in lower damage.

That actually sounds like a very good and plausible explanation, Jeraa!

Remember damages have been altered again in the apendix of Mercenary 2nd Edition...
AP should be AP5 as the penetration being based on dice has been superseded.

To me those descriptions sound reversed. The 5.5mm sniper round would be better suited for pure sniping, while the larger 8mm makes more sense to be anti-vehicle or against armored targets, such as a powered armor trooper. They used to have anti-vehicle rifles way back when, but armor changed and anti-vehicle rockets were adopted instead.
Re: Data on the Heavy Gauss Rifle 5,5 mm
Heavy Rifles are still used, like the Barrett 50 or Steyr AMR:

True that. Also, the index in Mercenary 2nd ed also has a single entry for heavy sniper gauss rifle, so I'd imagine the theory regarding two weapons one profile seems to fit.Infojunky wrote:Remember damages have been altered again in the apendix of Mercenary 2nd Edition...
