Re: VAS 2 Update
The idea is to have a fun simple game that you can add as much detail to, to make it fit your personal choice when it comes to style of play. The other thing is to make it a great book for resource when it comes to naval gaming and history.

Re: VAS 2 Update
Well Im knee deep in American destroyers and there alot of thoses. My next thing is to make sure I get the best info on the smaller ships since coastal invasions and keeping islands were a big deal in the Pacific.

Thanks for the update Ray. My God yes there are so many US destroyers. Will be awesome to see your list when it is done.

Re: VAS 2 Update
For anyone interested a couple of the guys are eating away at the final game stats for the ships that are in the book already. (Not VAS I book but VAS II book which at this time is much more exstensive.) Then on to expanding the list to complete the fleets. (The expanded ships list have stats just need updated and approval) I am completing the American Frigates then on to Corvettes and Escort ships. Russia is the only major player to complete. Boy I cant wait to finish the minors and neutrals which allows so many what ifs or specific battles early in the war. Just think if you were a ship flying the Netherlands flag, and get the radio signal telling you your country has fallen and what should you do now. In this case you fight along side your new allies even though some ships choose to scuttle as a better choice since they didnt think they could get to there allies or the ship was in repair or something similar. Well in your game you will get the choice.
Sorry if I rambled on but my goal is to keep you informed and interested.

Re: VAS 2 Update
Well still working on the USA. Im amazed at the amount of ships transferred between the different allies during the war. But Since Im getting into the Mine layers and sweepers I am getting closer to finishing the US OOB.
For anyone watching Matt has said we are at around 400 pages. If this book size is at standard book size this thing will be impresive.

Re: VAS 2 Update
Would it be worth splitting the book, specifically having the rules in one volume, one with scenarios then having one for the ships - or perhaps a couple for the ships.
Thinking practicality during the game, if the rules are like V1 they will be pretty short and workable, but something you will need to refer to a few times - thus something you want to carry about with you.
The scenarios you obviously need but in a separate volume (ideally something thats not too hard to cut the spine from and spiral bind), can then be left at the appropriate page.
Ships become something you use as a reference volume, noting the stats (or if they are SSD type data sheets photocopying to scribble on the ones you need), the main volume then left in the bag.
Due to the lack of terrain required this actually then becomes a highly portable game, a lightweight rulebook and perhaps scenario book (maybe one volume but easy to 'split') and a larger reference book which is easy to expand should the desire take you - though it does sound like this will be a near definitive reference book for WW2..
May also reduce the production costs slightly, while at the same time adding playability value - card slip case for the lot, shrink wrap and done.

Re: VAS 2 Update
Hey so how are things going on this project?
I was watching "WWII in HD Colour" and got me wanting to do some WWII Naval battles again. I was looking through my VAS1 stuff again.
Is there any estimate as to when the book will be out - like Q1 2015 or something?
Also, just curious, I was reminded how aircraft rules got updated in "Order of Battle". What are aircraft going to be like in VAS2?

Very well - we will be making an announcement soon.AdmiralGrafSpee wrote:Hey so how are things going on this project?
Between you, me and the four walls of this forum, you will likely be playing VaS 2.0 next August.AdmiralGrafSpee wrote:Is there any estimate as to when the book will be out - like Q1 2015 or something?

Seriously though, you will be able to do all aircraft vs. all ships (like Taranto or Pearl Harbour), and it will be an interesting, worthwhole game.

Re: VAS 2 Update
Thanks for the honest answer Matt. I guess I am old enough now that another year doesn't bother me so much. Still if there are any previews you want to share I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one to appreciate them.

Only 11 more months to go. Who knows, I might have finished my fleets by then.msprange wrote:[

Re: VAS 2 Update
OK guys I am back in the loop and looking at whats been done with the rules and where we are at since my computer had died I must say I can't wait. The rules are looking rock solid. With detail and accuracy at the top of the list. Looking at the coastal rules alone makes me want to blow something up. Maybe a shore battery or bunker.
Well let's keep the morale high and guns hot. And try not to get blown up.

Re: VAS 2 Update
Hi,
I like to ask in which way the scale is implemented within the rules? We are using 1/2400 and the actual rules define the measurement from center of a ship to the target. Will this retain in version 2?
Thanks for your helpful reply
I am looking forward for the expanded ship list for the US!
Will there also be a chapter about camouflage patterns? That one I am missing in all historical books. The pattern is named but there is always no detailed example.

Re: VAS 2 Update
Well, its august now.... Not expected to be playing it yet ofcourse, but not hearing anything at all? Did this game die before it was born?msprange wrote:Very well - we will be making an announcement soon.AdmiralGrafSpee wrote:Hey so how are things going on this project?

Well, sure got blown away by that one little preview picture of an unpainted 3d printed Victorious, 3 months ago, and wow, 5 months ago you even posted a 3d rendering. I can really feel the buzz there...msprange wrote: Just getting a few things straight and then we will start firing preview broadsides at you allI imagine they will start early next year...
Sorry to be snarky, but the PR you guys are doing, or rather not doing for this game is really beyond any belief:
- 3 pictures on facebook in about a years' time, thats 12 months
- a dead forum
- a dead frontpage
- no news while this game was projected even for this month/summer/september
- no previews
- no announcements
- no replies to your customers on facebook
- no news from warlord
- Actually removing the ships that you did release from the shop
Did I miss anything?
Re: VAS 2 Update
We have limited staff here, and a couple of other projects have over-run - Victory at Sea is in the queue, we just need to get a few other things shifted first!
Re: VAS 2 Update
I know there's been limited information publically, but as part of the playtest group I can say that I have personally been involved in 14 rounds of review of the new rules so far. I completed my review of the latest set last week. So while information may a bit sparse to the VAS fans out there, there is plenty of activity on going behind the scenes.
