Been away a while so....

Are there plans to support WW1 and before? I usually avoid any naval war game that includes aircraft since the games premise and play radically shifts from warship-vs-warship to long range out of sight duels between carrier air-wings.

Not a problem if that is what you like. But I have always enjoyed a heavy gun slugfest.

That said, are there any plans for on down the line?

The WWI game is fine and has an expansion coming out soon. I believe there is also stuff coming out for russo japanese stuff in the future.

My favorite way to play WaS now is either the official Long Distance rules, or afilter's Large Map rules.:

They really change the game in a subtle but significant fashion. Carriers are now far away from the battle, historical battles become possible. Playing this way is just like being Nimitz overlooking a huge battle.

Not many naval miniature games will allow you to play the Battle of Calabria with a FULL order of battle in 3 hours and get a good feel for the battle.

Oh what fun! I recommend you give it a try sometime. It is a different scale.

Peace

PS. I recognize this is totally off topic from the original (and much anticipated) subject. If the mods move or even delete this post I completely understand.

For a second, when I saw "WaS", I thought someone was quoting a certain fictional officer...

"Wictory at Sea! A Russian inwention."

Looking forward to it. I have a copy of AoD, all I need to find is a distributor in the US that actually carries ship mini's.

And by distributor I mean accessible sales to the FLGS, not direct sales that bypass the FLGS

One of the reasons I was overjoyed to hear Mongoose would have it's own line. Mongoose sells via distribution. Of course you are going with WW2 first. Disappointing for me, but since there seem to be more people interested in WW2 than there are in WW1 & Pre-Dreadnought, probably the wisest choice.

Hello.
My group in Bangor, Maine, USA, just did a major playtest game on 10 March. We had the scouting forces of the IJN and USN meet (about a dozen cruisers and a dozen-and-a-half destroyers per side). We modified the VaS 1 data for ships.

We found that the game played VERY well. We had 3 USN and 4 IJN players. The only real difficulty was that fire took too long because of the "I-shoot-you-shoot" mechanic. In large games, I strongly suggest what one player (grad of the US Naval Academy) said: Fire all BBs, then all CAs, then all CLs, then all DDs - each ship type as simultaneous fire.

One player was 12 years old, and even he had no problem learning the rules. The one with the most problems was a veteran of VaS 1 who occasionally lapsed back in the middle.

When I run my big convention naval battles, I set up each player with there own fleet. Each fleet usually has 2xBBs, 4x Cruisers and 8x DDs or for smaller games I cut there fleets in half. My biggest games I run are 10 players on a 8' x 15' table. They normally last about 4 hours.
Ages common from 10 to 60. Usually the young players have help from there parents.
