Wow, missed the announcement about the 1/1800. Interesting - while I have a bucket of 1/1800 from A&A it will be very tempting to pick up some extra resin models to beef up what I have already - and I'll be very interested should/when WWI fleets come out.

You must of missed the anouncement I post at The forum mini site.
WWI way down the road if done.
But planes and ships for WWII. Will be great getting all the stuff skipped and sister ships.
Also the mini picture preveiws look great. The new rules will be way more detailed and expansive than the VAS 1.0 rules.

All great news. I can't wait!

The switch to 1/1800 scale ships sure tipped my hand. I will be buying them.
I just hope they fill in some of the gaps in the WaS line. The future of that game is very uncertain, WotC has not had any announcements for a while now....just silence.

All this is gonna prompt me to splurg and buy a new gaming mat!
My old one is starting to look a little ratty.

Peace

Try out the new rules when they come out you may switch to inches and a blue sheet like me.
(or painted table as others do)

I do use inches and a blue sheet (mine is felt) for VaS. :)

I am pondering a new Hotz Matt....my old blue felt is looking ratty.

Sorry I thought you played WAS and was thinking about playing VAS. I have a blue cloth that will cover a 16' x 10' table. Dont like felt everything sticks to it and its hard to clean.

Ah, okay, found it.

That's exciting.

So, what is the initial release for VaS going to be? Is it WWII mainbook and minis. WWI as a supplement?

As for the WWII mainbook and minis. Still working on both. no release date yet.
As for the WWI supplement; it is an expasion to the First Edition of Age of Dreadnaughts. As far as I know its complete but I dont have a release date yet.

Well if WW1 ever gets released I'm in.
Never was very interested in WW2 naval with the coming of the carrier born aircraft.
Aircraft just suck the fun right out a game for me
Though I readily understand others disagree with me.

On the bright side, by the time a WW1 version releases the core rules will have been run through the ringer and worked through all the errata

OK, then I have a question. All the positive comments about VaS 2.0. tells me that 2.0 is a better version of the game. I am assuming that AoD 1.0 followed VaS 1.0 and that if I want AoD that takes advantage of the 2.0 rule improvements I would need to wait for VaS 2.0 to be followed by AoD 2.0.

Ya I have to say with all this talk about VaS 2.0 I can't see getting into AoD 1.0 right now. I guess for those enjoying AoD 1.0 right now a supplement will be welcome. I will probably hold off until AoD 2.0 w/resin minis before I take the plunge into WWI naval.

As far as I know there is no plans for an AOD 2.0

Well too bad. For me anyway

I know that there are a lot of people that really look forward to the WW2 game, but I'm not one of them. Nothing against the game itself, but the play and overall feel is completely different when you add fighters into it. No matter how you cut it, crunchy fun of a close engagement by warships, be they galleys, sailing ships, or WW1 era battle-wagons ceases to exist and is replaced by over the horizon cat-n-mouse followed up by fighter/bomber/torpedo attacks with the surface combatants sinking. Everything except the carriers and how many operational aircraft they have becomes irrelevant. Just not fun to me.

But I do hope everyone interested in that type of game have a good time of it. I have a copy of AoD 1.0 and will be reading through it, but there do not appear to be any manufacturers of mini's that are in distribution. So it doesn't look like WW1 naval is in the cards for a good while yet, if ever.
