What miniatures do you use for VAS?
Was just wondering what most players use for miniatures for VAS. I listed what I thought were some popular brands. If you use something else please share what miniature you use.

I too have the A&A minis but have thought of going smaller for this game. The figurehead minis would produce large fleets on a smaller game surface. It seems to be a tough call. The A&A minis are very cool looking in relation to detail. The very small minis like figurehead will loose some detail to the scale. What about a happy medium like GHQ? Does anyone use these miniatures?
The A&A minis would seem to be the logical choice as you can use them for both games. However, I am restricted to space at the moment.

Mine are a mix of Skytrex (Davco) and Navwar, with a few scratchbuilt ships, some from B&M and a few others from sources that I can't recall.

My 2nd hand French fleets are Navwar but everything I've bought from new is from Davco/Skytrex and will continue to be so until Navwar get into the 20th (let alone 21st) century with online ordering...
I can't get my head around people using Hallmark 1/6000 for 'reasons of economy'; they are more expensive than many 1/2400 ranges, including Davco.

I like the big ships but what can I say I also play with 54mm Infantry and tanks. Normally I play smaller games but the Big games that are run at cons are my favorite when you can game on a 16' by 8' table with massive fleets its just awesome.Captain Chum wrote:I too have the A&A minis but have thought of going smaller for this game. You can't beat "big" models for demonstration games. We refought the battle of North Cape on board HMS Belfast using 1/600 minis - fighting it out on board aship involved in the actual battle, on the 60th anniversary of the battle itself (with several veterans attending as well, one of whom pulled me up on the arrangement of ship's boats on the destroyer on which he'd served!)

Points System and Modern VAS
I have had a go at a points system for VAS (WWII basic version) and also a "Modern VAS" version. There is no facility to upload files here, so I am posting them to the FreeWargame Rules blog. They are both Word files.

I use navwar 1/3000, cheap(1,25£ for 1 battleship or 4 subs or 2 or 3 light cruisers), well designed, perfect for a 6' x 4' table

I use The Axis & Allies WAS minis on a nice big table.
