Regiment bases discontinued

Postby Duncan » Tue Oct 16, 2007 10:22 pm

Just for those among us who have based their ships on GW-Regiment bases: While I was at my local LGS and asked for the price of the bases the owner told me that the product is discontinued and he already is out of the larger bases.

They are redoing all the GW bases bags. They pulled them all some time ago, but fortunately I'd bought about six bags.

Hopefully they will bring them all back out and not make them bits orders, because that would be a giant pain.

As I understand it, GW are scrapping bits orders completely. If it ain't a complete model (or bag of bases), you won't be able to buy it.

They've moved a lot closer to doing this, in order to force people to buy whole models for conversions, but have conversely included more bits on sprues. The Possessed and Dark Angel Veteran sprues are good examples of sprues with lots of extras you could use elsewhere.

However coupled with their promise to never produce another new specialist games model (or release the Epic Tyranid sprue that is already done) they are cutting back even more to concentrate on 40k, Fantasy and LotR. The promised release of a new Space Hulk may now never happen.

But even if GW stop selling bags of bases, I'm good for a little while as the next stuff I'll be basing up will be WWI and pre-dreadnought, which will mostly fit on cavalry bases, which lots of people produce.

Mongoose might want to think about doing bags of bases though, particularly anything similar to the regiment bases.
