Victory at Sea: Ironclad Announcement
Just posted on our Facebook page;
Just finished the last rules for Victory at Sea: Ironclad, the game of naval warfare in the American Civil War - now just waiting for last playtesting and background/historical text from History Supremo Martin Dougherty. Then it is off to art, layout and publishing!
These rules are based on the Victory on the River set penned by David Manley, but they have been fully updated for the Victory at Sea 2.0 rules set (which, ironically, will appear _after_ Ironclad).
The rules cover just about everything that floated during the war, as well as shore batteries, forts and ground forces so you can play out your invasions! We have also shoved in a lot of historical battles including, of course, Hampton Roads.
Expect to see the rules appear on Wargame Vault next month, though there won't be a printed edition for perhaps another two years - we have to get Victory at Sea 2.0 properly under way first, but Ironclad will (eventually) have a full miniatures line (1/600 scale, most like), making it as complete as our WWII game.

Re: Victory at Sea: Ironclad Announcement
This is really good news Matt
I had a brief play with the Victory on the River before our house move, and now that we are getting settled I am looking forward to getting this nice updated version of Mr Manley's rules.
As an addendum, I'm finally getting the time to finish my own "mod" of VAS AOD for the 1904-05 Russo-Japanese war. Looking at the files, I haven't done anything since Jan 2014, so they are very delayed
I will email you a copy to pass around to play testers, as I have not had an opportunity to test them myself since Jan 2014 (I'm still trying to get my games table resurrected)!
Good luck and keep up the good work.

Just in time for my birthday!
It'll be fun to see just how easy the C.S.S. Virginia can plough through them damnyankees.
What's the price-point gonna look like, and how many ships (give or take) are included?

Re: Victory at Sea: Ironclad Announcement
We have not set a price point yet. As for ships, damn near all of them

One final question:msprange wrote:We have not set a price point yet. As for ships, damn near all of them
Will it be as easy to add ships as in prior versions?
There are so many different wars that loomed and threatened during this time period, but never happened. From the magnificent broadside ironclads with rows of cannon to the en-echelon ships with enormous muzzle-loading rifles firing shells as large as a WWII battleship's, so many interesting ships which can be governed by the same rules that we will find in the pages of this book.
Imagine the H.M.S. Inflexible under Capt. John Arbuthnot Fisher facing off against the R.M. Caio Duilio in the Mediterranean...
H.M.S. Warrior and Gloire facing off under the cliffs of Dover in the last gasp of Wood against Iron...
All the necessary rules for these would be in a book governing the War Between the States...
as long as the rules look like the 1st Edition (easily deduced formula, Special Traits, etc).
Re: Victory at Sea: Ironclad Announcement
We certainly have enough material from Mr Manley to do several supplements covering other wars

Careful Matt, I might be tempted into getting this.
But not to refight Hampton Roads
Watched two guys do that once. No idea which rules or models, but 6-8" models, circling an island, not getting any shots off all night. Killed nothing but time.
Just waiting for it to hit WV.

We are running through the last of the playtest sessions right now. End of July-ish looks likely.
