Legend Personality types

I liked the way BRP did the personality types option in their character creation, so I did a quick adaptation to the Legend rules. There are only three types here, I couldn't figure out how to fit in the fourth type, the person who uses their skill and training.

Physical
When confronted by a problem, if your character responds with physical force and/or violence, add +10% to the following skills: Athletics, Brawn, Unarmed, One Combat Style

Mental
When confronted by a problem, if your character tries to think his way through, add +10% to the following skills: Evaluate, Insight, Lore (regional), Perception

Social
When confronted by a problem, if your character uses their charm and force of personality, add +10% to the following skills: Culture (own), Influence, Insight, Persistence

I like the idea although in my games 10% would be quite high.

Originally in BRP is was +20%, I felt +10% was more reasonable seeing as Legend has a smaller number of skills.

+10% seems fine to me.

I think that BRP needs a Magical type as well.

Skilled
When confronted by a problem, if your character uses their skill and training to resolve or avoid the situation, add +10% to the following skills: Choose from Acrobatics or Athletics, Influence or Perception, Resilience or Stealth and one combat style or advanced skill (once chosen these cannot be changed).

I like it, I had trouble with that particular personality type. Acrobatics is a Advanced Skill unfortunately. How about Evade instead?

I'm thinking +10% to Lore(regional), Perception, and Influence. Then access to two advanced skills. That could potentially let a non-spell caster pick up Common Magic, Divine Magic, or Sorcery. It would also let a existing spell caster broaden their Lore or Language skills, or pick up Meditation. Depending on the campaign setting you also have Summoning and Concert Casting too.

Thanks.

Re Skills: I originally had Evade as well but then realised you were only giving the bonus to 4 skills, hence the choices. If you would rather not have the possibility of 2 advanced skills gaining the bonus by all means substitute Evade. It was only a quick suggestion anyhow.

Given how Legend has a tighter skill list I did try to keep it down to only a few skills per personality type. Originally I wanted to keep away from advanced skills, but it makes sense for the 'skilled' type to have access to one or more advanced skills.

I can see this being useful. though I'd make it such that the bonus is added to a skill check involving the skill, rather than the skill itself. If the character doesn't have the skill open when he attempts the task, the bonus doesn't count.

With that in mind, all characters pretty much have all their Common Skills open for them at the start, so this much is never going to be a problem should the task check call for one of those skills.

Investigative
Your character cannot let a puzzle pass him by, or a crime go uninvestigated. When your character confronts a mystery, +10% is added to a skill check involving the following: Evaluate, Influence, Insight, Perception, Stealth, Streetwise, Track.

Seductive
Your character uses his wit and charm to get his way, usually into someone's bed. When your character needs to entertain and seduce someone, +10% is added to a skill check involving the following: Dance, Influence, Insight, Perception, Sing, Play Musical Instrument, Seduction.

Note - the bonus here is applied only to the task check for that particular task, with that particular goal in mind, e.g. seduction, investigation, whatever. If, say, the seductive character has Influence skill, but he is using it in a non-seductive task (for instance, attempting to barter, or to persuade a guard to let him pass), the bonus does not apply.

Even though the OP doesn't clearly state it, this is how I thought it would work anyway.

Seductive would get you extremely far in Sheoloth.

Yes Wolf, yes it would.

I think alex's additions to the types of Personality choices are good. If this was going to be developed in any major way I'd like to see a larger list of personality types to choose from so that someone could mold their character in as many unique ways as they could want.

Of course this could be a massive undertaking, but I'm sure someone here has the time for it.

I would have to disagree with this statement only on the grounds that IMO each character should only gain the benefit of a single personality type. Your post suggests that players could choose more than one for their PC which IMO would lead to abuse as players pick and choose types to gain benefits to multiple skills. GM's allowing this to happen would have to keep tight reign on the players roleplaying to ensure they act appropriately for their personality types.

I apologize but I don't see how my post suggests that, it just mentions a larger list to choose from. I agree that you shouldn't be able to choose more than one personality type. I never said that you should be able to pick more than one, just that more options should be made available.

No problems Auyl. Perhaps it was just my interpretation of the above but I read it as someone could choose multiple personality types for their character. My apologies for the misunderstanding.

No worries Damon, now that you've point it out I see where some confusion could be made.

Have you seen how RQ6 handles this? It uses Passions, where any personality type or relationship could be a passion, say Love of family, duty to Lord, curious, etc.

That Passion gets a skill rating just like any other skill. It can be used to enhance or reduce other skills as appropriate, by twice the critical rating, or can be rolled directly in place of another skill or to see the character's reaction.

So if a character was curious 64%, he could enhance any skill that was appropriate to expressing that curiosity by 14%, If he was magically commanded to leave something he was curious about he could resist with a buffed Willpower, or use Curious directly. But also, say he was in a chase and noticed something interesting, the player may need to roll and fail curious to continue the chase...
