Age of Treason PDF?

Postby trechriron » Thu Feb 21, 2013 2:30 am

I really wanted to buy this today on RPGnow (Drive Thru, OBS), but only could purchase the new supplement; The Iron Companion.

What happened to the Iron Simulcrum?

This sounds like the next fantasy game I want to run!

I've been wondering the same thing. My friend had recommended the setting for me and when the companion came out, I thought of looking into the setting just to notice that setting's core book is out of print (and oddly it's not available even as .pdf anymore).

Maybe it's some licensing problem (i. e. Mongoose has lost rights to core book or something). Author of the setting Simulacrum is often in these forums, so maybe he can explain what happened.

AFAIK the author of AoT is porting it, or moving the setting to RQ6.
My Getting started with Legend file including a suggested starting adventure.

Yes, the license to Mongoose expired, and while Matt suggested I should repackage it into digest books and re-release it, I really did not want to burn more time and money doing that with the existing material nor to just chop it up into several books without thorough review and revision. Which would also put the brakes on doing new stuff. Mongoose can continue to sell the companion for another few months, but obviously that's of limited use if you do not already have the core book. Maybe some people on the forum here who have it could state whether they think it could be worth the investment for the scenarios and the city and the magic stuff that's in there to port into a homebrew.

There's a new book with 95% new material for RQ6 that's approaching final draft, and that is focussed on the region of Korantia and seafaring fun across the Inner Ocean. It would obviously be usable for Legend players with fairly limited conversion work on the magic systems. I have enjoyed working on it very much and I hope that wil shine through. And once that is done I will take a view on whether to revise and repackage the Taskan Empire material (Loz and pete permitting), or produce something new again.

Hmm so the PDF of the Iron Simulacrum is now permanently off-market?
I own the hardback (I think it's out of print now right?) but lately I was thinking of getting the PDF version as well to add to my electronic library. Does this mean it will not be sold as a PDF anywhere?

Hmm as much as I like Iron Companion I think a lot of its value is lost without Iron Simulacrum as an introduction.

Very much looking forward to it!

My vote goes to new. Next in line for me would be either the Theocracy or the Sheng.

At the moment, no - I don't have a version with the necessary OGL/Legend blurb included to offer one up at this point. May be able to sort that when I have the time and space to do so.

Theocracy gets a bit of coverage in Shores of Korantia, as much of the scenario action takes place on its border (and includes write-up for the cult of Jekkara). Sheng - well there's a fair bit of that in the Iron Companion, and really is most relevant if you are accessing via Taskan material. What I have done more recently is flesh out the region of Thafna, which is on the Eastern end of the High Plains of Kitan. But really, when you see SoK, you are just as likely to want to know more about the Tribes of Jandekot, the cultures of the Inner Ocean, or the Merchant Princes of Sharranket. And the thing I have been toying with for some time is doing an Assabian Rites sorcery/summoning/enchantment special.

I personally hope you can release a PDF soon of the Iron Simulcrum. With the compatibility of most BRP/d100 systems I don't think having a Legend version out there would hurt anything. Also, the reviews are really good and the amount of setting info sounds significant based on those reviews, so people can port it to their favorite flavor of d100. I have the companion, and it starts off right into the mix of it, so missing the main setting book leaves me out of the loop.

You have one sale as soon as it's available!

I found the Hardcover in SUPERB condition at Noble Knight games, and received my copy in the mail yesterday. Hardcover, very nicely done! The cover looks great in hard copy.

We are starting a game using Legend + AoT this weekend. Probably borrow stuff I like from RQ6 and BRP as I feel.

Still interested in purchasing the PDF when it's available!

I have done a lot of work on enchantment in the past, but I like summoning (Evocation, conjuring and what have you) to be a key specialism. Also, it's a neat way to pull more monsters into a humanocentric setting. So an Elf is not a member of a humanoid race but a type of Daemon or Jinn, as is an Ifrit, a Troll etc, each with their own uses to the discerning summoner - alongside Satyrs, Nymphs, Elementals and Demons. Work in progress, but having fun with it.

I just purchased what looks to be Mongoose's last copy of the Iron Companion via Amazon. I hope they actually have a copy or that it's not some beat-up bottom of the pile remainder.

Looking forward to the new stuff and contemplating porting it all over to the vastly simpler OpenQuest2.

Too bad. The one copy on Amazon that was listed turns out to be an error. So far, I've not found a physical copy of the Iron Companion for sale. Does anyone know of a source?

I actually never requested my whole allocation from Mongoose so don't have any spare...Mongoose are coming to the end of a sell-off period so I would not be surprised if there are no copies left.

Thanks GevatterHein. That copy looks quite expensive (£30 before postage), plus will take me some time to translate each page. Still, it may be my only option....

Expensive, true. But it's the original Book. There is no german Legend/RQ6. :(:(:(.
