Lore Characteristics

Postby Tobnac » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:38 pm

In the Skill chapter in the Legend Core rulebook, the magical skill Lore is derived from INT+POW. In the Magic chapter, the same skill is derived from INTX2. Which one is it, please?

I can't answer definitively, but it would make sense for it to be INT+POW, POW being the stuff of magic among other things.

P62 the advanced skill Lore is shown as INTx2. So Lore (Alchemy, art, astronomy, gambling, geography, heraldry, law, logistics, military tactics, mineral, philosophy, poisons, or theology) in INTx2.

p64 the divine magic skill Lore (specific theology) is INT+POW. This is the knowledge and understanding of one’s cult or religion; its history, myths and context in the world and is used in casting theistic/divine spells.

There are multiple different Lore skills and you are getting confused between them.

Lore (Alchemy) is INTx2 and is used for turning gold into lead or vice versa.
Lore (Theology) is INTX2 and is used for knowledge about gods, religions, religious ceremonies things like that.
Lore (Odin) is INT+POW and is used to ask for divine spells.

All Lore skills should be INT x2.

It makes no difference if the Lore is used for magical or knowledge Lores.

Its correct in MRQ2, so don't know how there came to be differing calculations in Legend.
What am I supposed to say?
Where are the words to answer you,

Thanks for the clarification Loz. Interestingly, i checked my copy of MRQ2 and the same mistake that is in the skill chapter of Legend was in the skill chapter of MRQ2, and it wasn't picked up in the errata, which I suspect is why it got missed in the update to Legend.

Lore (Odin) would also be knowledge about all things Odin. Lore theology would be a general knowledge about theologies and would be weird in a setting where each theology is their own lore as well.

That would be like classifying Lore (Mathematics) and Lore (Geometry) as different lores. But if you know your mathematics, you should be pretty well versed in geometry.
