Need some spark for Deus Vult

Postby Aneirin » Wed Aug 01, 2012 7:06 pm

Well I don't, but our GM does. We have been waiting for him to restart it for a while, alas he has had difficulty killing off our characters. We have gone through his monsters and got all the coll tools and equipment, and he seems to be having difficulty coming up with new things. he has been running it for a while and often kind of trails off things, usually when there are no supplements or add ons for a while.

However me and the group like legend, and like Deus Vult. So, what we need is some new life put into deus vult. Some new locations, or gadgets or monsters, just a little bit of fuel to respark our GM's fire and get him on Deus Vult again.

Anyone knows if we will be getting any Dues Vult coals of nugget any time soon?

(and I know, I know, if I love it so much why dont I run it. But I have a mind like pudding. Our GM is runing through current released adventures, and would need some new Deus Vult adventures to run one myself...that might be good actually, can see our GM as a player for once)

Hi Aneirin.

As a GM who has burned out during at least a few campaigns so far, all I can say is that if he doesn't seem to be enjoying the campaign anymore: let him kill it, perhaps even ask him to try something different. There's almost nothing worse than running a game you're not inspired to do, either because your creativity has moved to something else, because of timepressesure or what do I know.

Don't keep a campaign running too long.. sometimes it's best to wipe the slate clean, play a wwII game, a steampunk game or something (and all of this can be done with legend with a bit of work) and then the GM will probably get a great idea sometime in the future and restart the old. Sadly creativity can be a bit inconsistent sometimes.

Failing that, if the gm insists running it onwards - I don't think there's a lot coming for Deus Vult soon. But try to find some occult books and read them, and an adventure might serve itself.
Alternatively he can look for either Ars Magica, Call of Cthulhu or even d20 horror scenarios and convert... d20 -> legend conversions are not that hard.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, we tried the let it die and run other things, and have been running other things for a while now. The reason we have been looking to restart it is it is just like an itch. Always in the back of our minds, oh remember that deus vult campaign, that was awesome, maybe we can get back to it sometime. Something we really enjoyed previously. Kind of like a cartoon series watched lots and lots of times because it was kick ass, and we would like a special or maybe even another series of it.

I understand, and I know the feeling because I constantly hear some of my players talking about the earlier campaigns. But I run what I feel like - because if I have to continue a campaign I've grown tired of, it'll become a chore and die out.

If the GM also wants to get i back up, but lacks time / supplements or inspiration, I can only repeat the last stuff - look for similar style adventures in Ars Magica, d&d / pathfinder and Call of Cthulhu and convert them. Also, take a look at the "Inspiration material" some place in the Deus Vult book..

If one of his problems are that you've grown too powerful, you can try asking him to make a scenario which will be truly testing. Like, "Epic" story where someone is bound to die. Invading hell for instance or battling a fallen angel, participating in the Third Crusade etc. If nothing else, it can serve as a last scenario to truly end the campaign with a blast where you get to go down guns blazing, and perhaps survive to retirement ;)

Have you tried the Hoffman Legacy on Drivethru? We also have another Deus Vult manuscript in the queue right now...

Yeah I have. Remember playing through it and devilishly buying the off to see how we did! I really enjoyed it, felt like James bond at the auction! (a religiously fanatic one who wasn't quite as charming)

Glad to hear there is something else in the queue, I will be keeping an eye open for it. Any clues as to what it is about, or is it hush hush?.

My group has played the Hoffman Legacy and it was brilliant. We are all hoping Mr Walmsley will write somethingelse soon. The DV manuscript you have mentioned, how long are we looking at before it will be released? And what will it be called?
Listern, whatever is behind this door I can handle it....... aggggghhhhh

You could also use the Alephtar Games medieval supplements with Deus Vult - Stupor Mundi is set a little later, the Crusaders of the Amber Coast is set roughly at the same time as Deus Vult and Merrie England is set at the time of the 2nd and 3rd crusades, bang on the same time as Deus Vult. Whilst they don;t have the same mystical element, they do have a breadth of medieval material that Deus Vult does not have.

I have a few suggestions:

I'm running an adventure in Budapest, and it's a hotbed of trouble between the East and the Western Church. Plus, it's two cities in one, with the Catholic Church controlling the Buda side, and the Orthodox more or less dominating the Pest side. It's a gorgeous city of Roman structures, catacombs, beautiful vistas, and very gothic stuff.

How you want to run this is up to you. What I've done is create a small enclave of the Order, which is being hunted by a Heretical Sorcerer who is an Orthodox Abbot. Initially, though, that's not the concern of the Order so much as the incidental effects of the Sorcerer himself. This sorcerer's specialty is ginning up "flash" mobs, inciting commoners to violence against the Faith, particularly during Feasts and Vigils.

Budapest is a marvelous setting for Deus Vult, and I might also suggest Venice as well. My friends and I are working on incorporating Venice into something we'd like to publish for this game.

Another one is one I'm a Player in.

I am Max, and my girlfriend is Mary. I'm the warrior, she's the mystic, and together we solve mysteries. We're really quite the team. We killed one Vampire already, and we're on our way through to Denmark tracking down its legacy.
