Viking books - Seidr/Rune Carving
Just a quick rules question; the Viking Sorcerer profession seems to get both Rune Carving and Seidr, but do they get different galdrar/galdrastafir for each skill, or the same in both forms?

Different. Very different, requiring different percentages and Improvement Rolls to learn them separately.

Hmm, but three of each for a starting character? Just seems like a lot! Though I am playing the character so perhaps I shouldn't complain...
Edit: or I am reading it wrong and it should be three total...

If your Legend character wanted to learn Common Magic, Divine Magic, Sorcery and Spirit Magic, each school of magic would have to be a separate skill or even a bunch of them.
Common Magic
Pact (deity) for each deity
Lore (deity) for each deity
Sorcery (Grimoire) for each Grimoire
Manipulation
Spirit Magic
That calls for a lot of Improvement Rolls.

Re: Viking books - Seidr/Rune Carving
Sure, granted. But the base Sorcerer/Witch/etc classes (and the other Viking magic-user classes) just end up with one form of magic (in addition to common magic, which we're doing without to reflect a somewhat less high-magic setting), whereas as I'm reading it the Viking Sorcerer gets two, though with access to the same set of spells in both forms. So it seemed to make sense that the character's understanding of the galdrar/galdrastafir might extend across both skills. Otherwise he ends up with (as a beginning char) six different magical tools in his toolbox, and even ongoing he only has two magical skills to train - although admittedly spending rolls to learn spells for either/both will slow that down somewhat.alex_greene wrote:If your Legend character wanted to learn Common Magic, Divine Magic, Sorcery and Spirit Magic, each school of magic would have to be a separate skill or even a bunch of them.

I guess I just don't want to go full munchkin!
